    Talking finally got a discovery

    Hi all.

New here, joined today 'cos I saw some really sensible info being shared by some really nearly sensible people. Me now a proud owner of a '99 Series II ES Discovery V8. To some I know the ES will be a bit cutesy, but this was the only way I could persuade "da management" to let me buy one. "Oooohh look at the pretty leather, 7 seats and sunroof, ABS, ACE, EBD" any any other acronym invented. Anyway, thanks to global warming, this car is now in my budget. Why people sell these cheap ($13k) and up-spend $20k for a newer diesel hatch thingy to save $30 bucks a week on fuel is beyond me! Do the maths! Also, the planet is cactus by producing new, not by recycling the old.

So now I have one, I know it leaks oil, guzzles fuel, and all the buttons are in the wrong place, its British (as am I, well, dual national actually). I hope to be sharing some issues, solutions and general chat here. I already have one problem though, an old favorite on this forum, a replacement remote key fob (not the actual key, that's ok, just the remote part). I need some closure, lots of good ideas here, but no one yet writing in with a definitive confirmation of a successful alternative to paying less than the $450 from a dealer.

I work in a city office, this car has brought all our family a fantastic renewed lease of outdoor life for the past 6 weeks we've had it. We had a Hilux and Patrol before, but the Discovery is simply miles ahead, well done Land Rover.

    Nice to meet you all
    Simon
