I read somewhere the technical term for the appearance of the entire Toyota range, and the LC200 in particular - it's the "squashed rat" look. You know, the way a rat's eyes bug-out when it's squashed in a trap like the head and tail lights of a Toyota.
I don't know what different market segment the would be in! Horses for courses, I wouldn't buy a LC but doesn't mean they're bad or less capable. From everything I've read the D3 is the most capable Disco by far (in standard trim) yet has more electronics etc, etc.
I thought this about the 100 Series. I previously had an 80 Series GXL Diesel and it was a great 4WD. I got one of the first 100 Series in the Pilbara as a replacement for the 80 and was not at all impressed. The only thing it was good at was towing heavy trailers (lighting plants, compressors etc) up very steep hills (iron ore stockpiles) - it did this better than anything else available where I was at the time.Quote:

I think the D3 would be one of the most capable 4wds ever not just disco's, i have been off road with several and they suprise me every time, on one trip we have a rear locked classic rangie and the D3 did everything easier. The are truely supurb off road.
As for the 200 Series, i think the base model Diesel being priced at 80k would turn alot away, you can get a D3 with Terrain Response and alot more creature comforst for under that, the D3 is better value for money. Alot of people said the D3 was to expensive, but when you broke it down it had, and still has, awsome value for money. If Land Rover opened up some more country dealerships in larger centres like Bathurst so people out of the city areas could get them serviced one they bought them Land Rover could build up some sales, and with an improved image heaven forbid compete with cruiser sales.

Auto styling is not something that Asians do well. Having said that, the SSangSyong Musso was designed by a Pommie from the London School of Arts - an example of people working outside their area of expertise. Oh, the ugly interior of the eafly D1 was designed by UK design house, Conran Design - another woeful example of people designing outside their area of expertise.
However, I put to you that any Asian manufacturer could easily beat the average UK car manufacturer in build quality - especially iof they put their mind to it.
So if the manufacture of LR did move to India, I doubt there'd be any problem.
looks ugly,too big and panels lights look too easy too damage in the scrub. IT could have been worse it could be a hummer. Not that the hummer looks bad but you'd just about need to be psychic be able to see where you're going off road with those tiny windows.
