I don't see why it makes a difference whether people know where I am or not, I'll choose whom I think needs to know.![]()
Yes, suburb (or city) and state
Yes , state only
Yes but as a user typed field
no, who are you Big brother?
I can not understand the last option about big brother amd how many members voted in favour
If they think that the rest of the mates are "big brothers" why bother to be in the forum
Open the "Land Rover Incognito forum" and finish the problem.

I voted "no, who are you Big brother?" because really it is just very basic internet security. We're all pretty relaxed in here which is cool, but it's not always like that and we don't really know everybody that is watching - how much they have taken to us personally or to our vehicles. If I gave my location in Sydney I would be found in 2 sec's, likewise where I now live and thats not always a good thing. There isn't actually a necessary reason to have to give that information to the forum, and that does make things difficult or inconvenient for those that are trying to help - but courtesy would also suggest that if you do post a question where location is relevant that you would give this. If someone wants to find you and you want them to find you, then you have the op

I think most people post before seeing there are extra bits to fill in after registration...making the field mandatory but leaving the content up to the user should be a good compromise. (Plus, it lets the international members have a bit more freedom than the admins trying to think of all eventualities)

I understand that some people like to keep their privacy and I am one of which are upset about who easy is to find anything about you in Australia.
People of bad character or criminal intentions will get your records without any problems.
Just for your information regarding privacy have a look at this site which is among hundreds in the Internet.
Sleep well and relax that Big Brother is in control of your life

AND that is the site that is publicly known about, and there are others, used by ??? Departments and Authorities, that are in the realm of Surveillenceso that every keystroke is noted and EVERY site checked/blocked as the codes require. I.E. Terrorist Orientated sites, Porn, Hate, Anti-Semitism, Nuclear Weapon Manufacture. to just name a few.
cheers
To me, putting down your correct address lends credibility to your comments.
Call me a stick in the mud, but its hard for me to believe a comment from someone who says they are from "the far side of the moon"( i hope thats no ones tag)
isnt forcing someone to disclose their location to sign considered invasion of privacy.....?
i have no idea.....but i do know its bloody handy at times......
I dunno. I have no idea of what you look like, your first name or family name, your rego no., or much else. I do know where you used to work.
All we really need is a rough geographic location, e.g.Western Sinney, or NW NSW, or similar.
But when people come here and start asking for recommendations for a local mechanic and they haven't indicated even the State in which they reside, it's a bit difficult to help.
