    turtle doves

    Hi Guys non landy content!

    As you are such a fountain of knowledge im turning to you once again for a bit of advice!

    I was cutting the hedges (bloody weed!) the other day and passed the trimmers rather close to a bird nest with 2 baby turtle doves.. they are feathered and fill the tiny nest.. and they looked pretty panicked! (hardly surprising as they are electric trimmers!

    im a bit worried as i havent seem mum or dad come back to the nest to feed them in 2 1/2 days (admittedly i havent been there much) but i have kept a close eye on them and they are still passing food etc and moving around (mainly turning) in the nest.

    Do i need to worry? or is mum still sneakliy feeding them? or would they of died after 2 1/2 days without food already?

    i know there are millions of these around and 2 more doesnt make a difference but im a soft hearted bugger and hate to see anything suffer if i can prevent it! if we need to take them in we will and hand rear them ( i should imagine they wont be long until they are flying either!)

    the very same

    mother doesnt stay in the nest at night tho (maybe as there is no room) thats why im not convinced that she comes back and feeds them!

    I think that they would not have survived 2 and 1/2 days with out food. I was always under the impression that if you did not touch (put you smell on them) the mother would most likely still come back and feed them.

    yeah thats why i have been looking but not touching... i was just surprised that the mum wasnt there overnight... which is why i thought they may of been abandoned! i guess after 2 1/2 days also they wouldnt still be passing food..

    i'll keep my eye on them i guess... just didnt want to leave it too long and find them dead.

    if they have survived this long they will be fine, hen is obviously still feeding them, as to you not seeing her, they didnt become a flying rat by being stupid.

    They are actually feral,they are introduced.We have a few that live around our house,quite tame.
    Along with cages full of galahs that have been rescued and the odd magpie that has been rescued.Im actually in the doo doo a bit because I let the pet magie out of the chookpen whilst shifting sprinklers.He is hanging around but the locals ar picking on him something cruel.

    A friend of ours drags in the half dead and bewildered and she has a maggie ina cockie cage that is totally retarded, this things best mate is a cat, I gave her my Lorikeet it was mental only bird I ever had that spent all dayhanging upside down from one leg wolf whistlewing, put a bowl of water on the table and it would bath itself, would drink tea, it could crap vertically and horizontally all while upside down and it went everywhere, you thought bali belly was bad, when it dries you cant shift it, so it went, its still feral and its best mate is a grman shepherd it stands on the back of the shepherd while it walks around the house

    Honey eater, they have a very simple digestive sytem. In one end and out the other, almost as quick.
