Here's a tip for you in regards to corners,when corning Left stand out towrds the centre of he lane, then aim for the centre line of the street on the left, (Example) the further back your front wheels are, IE,Forward or Full-Forward (like buses) the further you put the windscreen towards the street before turning, then the rear will follow and clear the curb, that is, don't turn unitl you front wheels are WELL CLEAR of the corner point,;) Hope that helps

Saw a driver take 4 windows out of a bus on a lamp post,by cutting the corner passengers weren't impressed :(

Well Done mate, I only had 3 lessons to get my Licence and was asked after my first if I had driven a truck before (which I had) in which I answered, "only on the farm".....:p

I had on my test day, an accident happen in front of me where I nearly launched the instructor through the windscreen when I pulled up mm's from the car that T boned another in front of us.

Then I had a car do a U turn in front of me on one of the side streets in the industrial estate that I was tested in and then I nearly took the mirror off a Nissan Pootrol that stopped in front of me but didnt pull over far enough and I couldnt pull over the line due to on coming traffic and as he had slowed then accelerated then stopped it took me by surprise and so I didnt stop.

That I thought was a mistake but the instructor and tester thought I did well to avoid everything that happened and gave me my ticket.

Ive had a couple of close calls since but nothing as bad as that as when it happens away from the test it isnt as bad as your not stressed out already.

Is your truck an Isuzu with the eaton/fuller gearbox???
1500rpm is the magic figure for an up or downshift with a slow double clutch.
Works perfect on our shire trucks,rush it or over speed and you crunch it ever time.1500rpm up or down and all is sweet.
Also make sure on test day the truck is up to full operating temp,the gearboxes baulk heaps till warm.

Yep theres been some changes, mainly to do with heights distances and restbreaks. again not enough to trip you up IRL but enough to make you flunk a test.

If road movements is working tomorrow if you like i can get you a copy of the enabler test but not the formative (its an ADF thing you do the test twice, once that doesnt count weather its a pass/fail and then the real one.)

but the enabler is just the questions from the examples in the roadlaw book and a few others.

Read the book, learn it and you'll be right, have the wife test you with 2 questions about the subject matter on each page of the book and I bet you pass.

Thanks for the tips, its a '07 Isuzu 550L, but I have no idea what box it has.....hope thats not on the test :p:D

Dave that would be good thanks. I have only really read the book once, but I had only a few hours sleep so not much sunk in.....really had better pull my finger out and read up !:angel:

Mate, good luck with the rest of your licence work. You should fine, the rest of it will be fairly straight forward - there are no tricks. When I did my HR the instructor/assessor chatted the whole way through it which was brilliant in terms of taking my mind off the pressure. I cut my teeth with a Road Ranger gearbox, though every truck I've driven since has had synchro (if you could call truck synchro that). The Isuzu's are good to drive.

Isn't the 550 a 4x4 rather than a 3x axle truck?

Thanks mate, you may be right ,our truck is the same as the CFA dmo's have and yes you are right I think they have all 4x4 service trucks.....but its the same as a 550 without 4x4 then and only two axle's:angel:.

I cant even look at the sticker on the side of the cab becasue its been taken off when painted up. If any body is interested I will take a few pics and post on my flicker account (if it will let me, still having issues uplaoding pics)

Well done mate. Did my HR test in the early 80's in a Thornycroft Nubian Major (ex RAAF crash rescue truck) We had it as a water carrier/second response bush fire vehicle in the NSW Bush Fire Brigade. It was quite a handful with a straight 8 Rolls Royce engine and 5 speed crash box, got plenty hot inside as well. After 1/2 an hour driving around the streets of Miranda and Caringbah, the instructor reckoned I deserved to pass having to drive, in his words "a pig of a thing like that".:D
