    I pulled up along side a river and was greeted by a pile of beer cans all over the track, funny thing was the pile of cans was only 1.5 mtres form the rubbish bin provided. Then I climbed down to the river and what was I greeted with, a large Human Turd and toilet paper left there on the river bank.
    I wonder why they frown on bush camping?
    Yes, it is very frustrating. But usually you don't have to go too far off the beaten track to find pristine wilderness, it is just that those places that are easiest to get to happen to be where ignorant louts go too. The most commonly used 4x4 tracks are being avoided by the club crowd because of the fools that go there to rip the place up (Thompsons Track, most of the beaches, etc.). On the other hand, Bassifier, if you are planning to go to the South Island your chances of avoiding those spoilt areas are possibly better.

    Last March I came in contact with humans only 3 times in three weeks.. and that was when i actually went to a site to get some washing done
    Trust me, the toyota bush camper (troopy) I had last time had never seen such territory.. no 4x4-ing in NZ... that hilarious!

    Try navigating a braided river crossing, aint gunna get far in a flaming hiace!

    Looks like I'll book the Troopy again.
    Thanks for the help fellas.

    Have a good holiday - let us know how it goes. - photos would be great.
    be interested in doing something like that next visit over there.

    - seems there is a lot more to see off the beaten track than I was aware of.......so sorry if my posts implied otherwise.

    If you are;

    around the Wanaka region over Easter, keep an eye out for a convoy of Landies around the region, they are starting out from Auckland and picking up vehicles on the way down to arrive on the Thursday night. Its part of the 60th celebrations.
    Might see you there!
