I know it's a long shot but I'm having a hard time finding a rental 4x4 camper in the south island NZ...
I have found Tui campers, but thats all.
I guess it can be a toyomotor if it has to be...
I need the 4x4 aspect cause I never sleep on the same river bed twice while chasing salmon
Any help would be appreciated!
Cheers,
Rich.

If I really needed 4wd over there I'd be thinking about just hiring a HiLux or something off a regular car hire firm, then hire a tent and all the camping equipment. There'll be a few places that hire out all the equipment as a package and it'll probably work out cheaper than any campervan. I'd be carefully thinking about how much I needed 4WD first though.

But this is probably what you are looking for:

Otherwise a lot of people also buy a cheepy and sell it off when they leave the country.

Probably - I'm from Kiwiland myself so should know better I guess.
I guess I was more meaning for him to think about what he actually wants to do with the campervan. We hired a regular campervan over there a couple of years ago and got to all the places we wanted to in that.
I'll be there in March for 2 weeks ...visiting the folks in Tauranga. Love to get a ride in a Landy on a 4WD trip in if anyones doing anything over Easter.
Man I would expect to see you out there waving the flag
Give Neil a yell at the Auckland Land Rover Owner's Club for what is happening then (bound to be something). I don't think the diary has been filled for 2008 yet though.

I spent 4 weeks over there with a motor home. And it's hard to find camp sites where you pull up beside a river. Due to litter problems in the past camping in not designated parks is frowned upon. After all they can't make money if you don't use the camp grounds.
I pulled up along side a river and was greeted by a pile of beer cans all over the track, funny thing was the pile of cans was only 1.5 mtres form the rubbish bin provided. Then I climbed down to the river and what was I greeted with, a large Human Turd and toilet paper left there on the river bank.
I wonder why they frown on bush camping?![]()
