    rear wheel bearing nut spanner?

I am in the process of dissassembling my rear axle housing etc and do not have an implement to get the lock nut etc apart. I have folded the lock washer back, left side was finger tight, but right is really locked together. My son did the rounds of local tool shops this morning, no one had anything nearly large enough.

I think it is 52mm, any idea/listers where I can get my own. The illustrations I have seen it is shown as a pipe spanner (look like pressed metal).

Right, it is a pipe spanner, actually 2.055", or more precisely 1 1/4W. Available from any Landrover specialist for around $10, and, although not exactly the same size, the ones designed for Jeeps and Landcruisers are close enough to be useable in most cases, and probably available from any four wheel drive shop.

    Hammer and Chisel ???

(Personally I reckon the $10 is worth it).
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

Yes they're a tube spanner. Plenty of Land Rover spares places carry them e.g. Karcraft p/n R606435 Karcraft Australia Pty Ltd

Hammer and chisel can be used, but is not recommended as it wrecks the nuts and is likely to get fragments of metal in the bearings - not good. In an emergency a punch is much better to use than a chisel, but as you say - the spanner is well worth the $10 - I have two, one I carry in the car, the other is in the workshop. Neither cost as much as $10 - one I have had for years, the other came in a box including a Series 2 distributor and a steering relay, all for $5 at a clearing sale.

Thanks for the immediate help guys, I've been loaned one locally to get it apart, and my own spanner is on its way by post.
