Thread: Mickey Thompson MTZ vs Cooper STT's

MTZ's are fast gaining a very good reputation from what i've read on general 4wd forums.

Hi PCH, I have a set of MTZ's on my 130 and am quite pleased so far .Not a lot of kms as yet but they grip well on all surfaces and are fairly quiet except on that very smooth tar used around here for patching roads, when they make a sort of zipping noise.A bit startling the first few times but I am used to it now.They were very price competitive when I bought them last year.Cheers, 130man.

On the trip that Twitchy organised in the Blue Mtns on 29th Dec, there were three Opposite Lock tojos. All three were running Mickey Thompsons. Unfortunately, we didn't get to see them perform as they decided to split from the group.

A little off topic.

In either of the Cooper STT or the Mickey Thompson MTZ
in 315/75R16 or 325/80R16 sizes the catalogues say rim width 8 - 10 inches.

Are these absolute minimum rim width or you can use a narrower one?

BTW: I am looking to replace the unobtainium 925 mm diameter 255/100R16 (9.00/16 bias) size which sit on a 6.5" rim.

These tyres will have very similar properties as I believe that they come out of the same factory and the MTZ was a copy of the STT.

MTZ's are good. Never used them on a L.R though. But think I might be going with them next.

As far as what CraigE said all the technology/ engineering which goes in to them is done under the same roof as the coopers so should be very similar. I think the micky's are cheaper though and don't have that often useless warranty that coopers have.

If you're running 7" rims, it's my understanding 235/85 are the max legal.
