Telstra from Slater & Gordon, Lawyers. FYI... Free Telstra Directory Assistance!
Tell all your family/ friends/ business acquaintances - in fact tell everybody about this!
For all Australian respondents... Telstra Phone book
Hi everyone,
For anyone contemplating using the Sensis directory service number, 1234, DON'T!
Sensis, as you may or may not know, is a subsidiary of Telstra. The 1234 number is replacing the Telstra 12456 directory assistance number, but this time with outrageous costs attached: 40c to call the number, then 4c A SECOND!
By law, Telstra have to provide a FREE directory assistance number, because they are still majority owned by the government. They choose however not to pass this number on to the public.
What's the free number? 1223
Thumbs down to Telstra for finding a way to ‘charge’, for a service that is supposed to be provided for free.
Of course, feel free to forward this on…

Telstra aside, does anyone know how to get directory assistance for Optus and other telco's subscribers? I have friends and acquaintances who have gone to Optus, Virgin, Vodaphone, etc. for their landlines and are no longer in the Telstra book or on whitepages.com.au - Search for an Australian Business, Government or Person.

I'm not a Telstra customer but I'm in the phone directory.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.
I also thought that 1223 was a free number until I got this on my last Telstra bill.
OPTIONAL THROUGH CONNECTION OPTION ON TELSTRA DIRECTORY ASSISTANCE.
'From no earlier than 29 october 2007, eligible mobile callers to Telstra Directory Assistance on 1223 will be able to be connected to their requested number. Eligible mobile callers who request connection will be charged the existing Directory Assistance service charge of $0.50 cents plus an additional $0.88 charge for both successful and attempted connection to their requested number. For successful connections, standard call charges will also apply. Eligible mobile customers will also receive the listing name and number via an sms at no additional cost.'
