By the looks of it you will need to stipulate to him what phase you want. Single or Three... Single is what you want if you havnt got any 3 phase outlets at home (most dont)

Yeah, I would assume also that if it is a 3-phase option on it, that the single phase power will probably also require 15amp lines rather than 10amp. It looks like it says 240v requires a 60amp fuse I think on the back.... but I'm not sure. I really think that you'll get what you pay for, but $80 is cheap even if it is a POS.

My 2 cents: A stick welder is still a stick welder. If you want to weld stuff as a hobby MIG gives the better results. If you want to do maintenance on machinery on a farm at locations with thick steel and various supply voltages, then this stick welder is a good idea. ( It appears that you can change input voltages at will). All depends on what you want to do with it.

that will be a single phase industrial welder, by rough gonkulation it should have a 20a supply when at full noise.

I read Need to wire up to suit. Supply with 4 pin 3 phase secondhand plug. to mean that he will wire it up with a normal 3 phase plug or a smaller version of it which looks similar but is smaller and only one phase. Based on that all hed be doing to set it up on 3 phase would be tap a single phase out of the 3.

unless your wired for 3 phase this might not be the welder for you... why not shoot him a question about the input draw of the thing?

for my 10c worth my advice to you would be to buy an inverter welder that will take a tig kit.I have one since 98 and have used it to weld excavator buckets, non ferrous metals ,stainless etc etc and only requires 13 amp socket

I bought a 3in1 welder from ebay awhile ago 240v single phase can weld in the garage works fine only thing I have to watch is the other half can't use her hair dryer or anything else that sucks the juice because it trips the breaker.

When I get my own place will get the garage wired with 15 amp plugs

We had one on the farm,lower amps.
It was very good,even with 3.2mm rods.
AND ITS AUSSIE MADE not a china import.
You will need to look into the wiring side.
I dont think it will run to its full capacity without 3 phase(I IS NO SPARKY).Many homes have 3 phase as the old electric ovens needed it.

If i was after a cheap stick welder id buy it for sure the unit is designed to run on either 240 v or 415v so you can use it just about anywere ...

If wire'd to 240v id say the max you would get would be 200 and a bit amps tho you would need a 20amp circut or beta to do so tho if set upon 415v it would deliver the max current ...

Buy it take it to a sparky mate to wire up or to a welding shop should only cost a few bucks and your away
