    4wd OTY VICTORY SHORT LIVED

    looks like toyota was sponsoring the 4wdoty in overlander this year.
    the rangie came in third last and the defender second last. the only one they beat was the hummer.
    1st toy 200 tdv8
    2nd toy 200vx petrol
    3rd jeep wrangler rubicon unlimited
    4th toy land cruiser 76 series gxl
    5th rr vogue tdv8
    6th defender
    7th hummer H3
    obviously the attributes that 4x4 aust found so endearing in the two landy's that put them so far above the others, must've been turned off for overlander!
    LAND ROVER;
    HELPING PUT OIL BACK IN THE GROUND FOR 70 YEARS
    CARS DON'T GET ANY "GREENER" THAT.

    Just goes to show that money talks and not everyone has the same opinion. Strange thing for me is that whilst one magazine bags the wranglers ride quality and finds the defenders quite good. The other bags the defenders and finds the wranglers ok and whats more they even rate the leaf sprung 76 as better. I have yet to travel in a leaf sprung vehicle that has comparable ride quality to a coil sprung vehicle let alone one that is better. Mind you i wish Landrover would put a thumping V8 deisel in the Defender though.

    I saw a coment on another forum were one of the guys testing for the 4wdoty said that the 200 series should be named the 4wd of the decade as wellas the 4wdoty what a w@nker just goes to show that all the toyota lovers work for overlander and my coment was only w@nkers read overlander anyways

    Toyota make the best 4wd...
    Coopers make the best 4wd tyre...

    Overlander has ALWAYS been swayed by the advertising dollar....

    Thats been blatantly obvious over the years...

    I think one of the Overlander testers is rmp from this forum - he's a Defender driver.

    He is indeed. And I still read, and enjoy Overlander. Heck, i'm still on their forum.

    Interestingly in their past awards LR and toyota are even on wins at 9 a piece. And from what i've read 1/2 of the difference is a difference in criteria, although with some obvious opposites to oher mags reviews.

    At least their rival magazine, 4x4 Australia, has recognised a Land Rover product as 4x4OTY.

    And placed the new 200 Series TD Cruiser in 3rd place

    Their '4WD of the decade' comment was a little suspect.

    It is possible that they genuinely thought the LC200 was the best (though I'm not sure how) but their article was rather vague. 4x4 Australia listed criteria scores, so one could follow their logic, even if at times one disagreed; but not so for overlander.

    The lack of transparency only makes their decision more questionable.

    All of a sudden Overlander is crap because the LC200 won the 4WDOTY?

    Not long ago they were champs when the RR won it, then the D3 and then the RRS. Back when it was LR winning there was no comment on it having anything to do with the advertising dollar and everything to do with the vehicle, but now a Toyots wins so things have changed?

    Really... at the end of the day it was the LC200 that best acomplished the criteria for Overlanders 4WDOTY.... though thats possibly not what the testers would buy for themselves.
