Yes, some folk get vocal about this. Me included. Down in Dalgety we were not even getting 1% of original flow not 1 percent. Just disgusting that it was pretty much all diverted.

SA, especially country have always had a high proportion of rainwater tanks. Just about every house in Murray Bridge has one and their reliance on water from the Murray is minimal. Adelaide is minimal, although getting better, yet rely extensively on the Murray for their water. A lot talk about acid rain as the reason not to have one in Adelaide, but you can still use it for the garden etc. I think every house should have one. And yes SA is one of the lowest users of schem water which is great but still could be a lot better. NSW, Vic and Qld are by far the worst and have a tendency to believe it is not their problem.
I am not for a minute saying drinking water users that obtain their drinking water from the Murray are the sole cause of the state of the Murray, but it is a contributing factor and ways need to be looked at to reduce this dependency and get the Murray back to its natural state. Pipe dreams I know but all state co-operation is needed.
I am lucky where we live, rain water tanks, ground bore and plenty of rain in this part of the country ensure they are always full and we use practically no scheme water.
