Seat belts

For me is a second nature imposed by law. Good idea ? yes, but I believe in the freedom of choice.
It is give me the s#@$ when you must use them but the "professional taxi drivers" do not have to use them. :mad:
For this reason and others i do not believe that should be compulsory for adults or at least do not get book if you forgot to wear them.
I know of one case of the driver burned to death because his mate was unable to remove him for the car.
The survivor, his mate can not wear seat belts after 25 years of the accident happens. Yes it is one case in a million but then again...freedom of choices.
I do not believe that we have to let a small group of senior public services do gooders run our liefs.

Just my humble opinion

Its a no brainer for me its on every step of the way Im the same as far as all passengers must buckle up otherwise two feet and a heartbeat

When i was 5 or so, my dad & a mate rebuilt an old old vehicle, one of those with 3 seat across the front not covered & then a cab enclosed to seat probably 5 or 6. I was in the front seat & we hit a tree due to the vehicle siezing & locking up, I went through the front pane of glass & ended up in hospital not being able to see (blind), After years of surgery & eye excercises all is ok, But my folks drilled into me belt up...;)

"Freedom of choice." Sorry but that is a cop out and a sad joke. People that think like that need to see the results of not wearing one and the impact on the families. Sorry but this issue is one there is no valid against argument. Come to an MVA with me and see the results, if you can keep your lunch down, especially with a child. Safety laws put in place is not an infringement of your rights, but a protection of your life. If we did not have some laws there would be complete chaos. People that do not wear seat belts or drink drive get absolutely no sympathy from me. I am by no means a wowser and do believe in freedom of choice to a certain extent as long as there is no adverse effect on anyone else. I also do not agree with a lot of decisions made regarding road safety, but basics like this are essential. I am not pointing this directly at you Chucaro, as you say it is second nature to you to wear one, but you did make the statement about freedom of choice.

Professional taxi drivers do not have any exemption from wearing seat belts in Australia. Whoever fed you that line is grossly misinformed. I have personally seen taxi drivers booked for this.
Exemptions are very seldom granted.

Always. Even just up and down my 30m driveway (habbit). I feel uncomfortable without it.

Apparently you shouldn't wear one when doing a river crossing, but i'll cross that bridge when i come to it :D:D:p (were's the ROTFLMAO smiley face thing when you need it).

Weird thing is that if you add seatbelts to a series vehicle that was not fitted with them you actually have to have it all certified as a modification even though you are actually making the vehicle safer whether it complies with adrs or not.

Yes - but many Series 1s even were fitted with them (all the SMA one for example) and as they predate any legislation on the subject there is in fact no way of proving whether or not they had the seat belt from before the legislation existed. From a practical point of view it probably does not apply even to Landrovers made after the legislation was introduced, as by then there were mounting points either fitted or bolt on standard parts, and there is no way of telling whether the optional belts were fitted from new or not. Of course from some time during S3 production belts became compulsory, so they must be fitted.
