The non-wearing of seatbelts in the US is the reason they have so many problems with air-bag injuries. In the US the air-bags are designed as a primary restraint system. They have a larger charge and are actuated slightly earlier.

In Australia and places where seatbelts are mandatory, the air-bags are "secondary restraint systems" and deploy later with slightly lower charge. You may see the letters SRS over the airbag in the actual car. Hence we don't have air bags deploy in low speed crashes.

(Which can be a problem for the rescue crews when the bag hasn't deployed.)

Aside from it being law, I cant stand being in the vehicle without it on, i guess being young its just always hammered in.

Always had it drummed into me as a kid, and it's just second nature. Won't drive the car unless all passengers are buckled up either. If they don't like it, they've got two feet.

I started wearing seat belts in 1961 after an uncle was involved in an accident resulting in serious injury to all in the car - and it was clear that with seat belts there would have been no injuries (10mph, hit pole). Since then I have always worn belts when on the road.

I often do not wear a belt when at low speed off road on flat ground though, especially when stopping frequently, such as frequent gates or checking baits or fencing etc.

I always do, automatically really, without even thinking. My children do the same, and they get upset if someone doesn't put the belt on.
I regularly observe other drivers/passengers not wearing their belts, thanks to the elevated seating my Land Rover provides me with. I personally wouldn't do without, having seen too many who didn't when it was too late.
I once had a Series Landy that didn't have belts fitted, though.

Like what was said previously I won't go unless everyone in the vehicle has their seatbelt on, and if they don't like it they can walk - how hard is it to clip it in? I mean really? Sheesh.

I remember once I drove my Mum's car back from training and I had a funny feeling the entire way. I couldn't place it until I got home and realised I'd left the seatbelt off, it was such a shock. I've never done it since.

Always wear them onroad, and when it comes to offroad, if doing river crossings and very rough slow offroad stuff no i don't, as hiline says that belt just gets tighter and tighter.
