I agree. Imagine what the likes of Len Beadell and his ilk (think Snowy Mountains Authority vehicles) would think, who went everywhere with their Jeeps and S1's with 600/16's.
Guys I am always amused at the thinking in Australia with tyres
There is another forum that advocates that if you dont have 35 inch tyres you have a serious deficiency and part of your anatomy didnt fully develp in your childhood (sorry ladies)
Have a look at this admittedly a Rover isnt a Pinzgauer
YouTube - 4x4_Pinzgauer
I have never owned a Pinzi but have owned a couple of Haffs these things were seriously capable
All on 8x25 x 16 tyres Oh yes and Portals

Mmmm, I think it depends on where you plan on going. The diff to ground clearance is really all we are trying to maximise isn't it? So portals do a great job of this but none of us have them.
Having been out on a couple of trips where I got hung up on the diffs while in muddy ruts, I'm a fan of having the larger tyres to help out with clearance. That said, I'm running 32's and would likely not go bigger than 33's.
As said it depends on where you are going. I don't think Lenny would have done much rockhopping in his Landy
However 35s wouldn't be the best choice for general touring.
I like the Pinzguasers and have played with the smaller Haflinger too.
I would not do that as if you look closely the rear diff and backbone got a hard time.
Still good to see.

The width and diameter along with pressure(s) and tread pattern are all relevant to the surface being attempted.
If that were sand I very much doubt successful progress.

I thought I was wrong once, but I was mistaken.
i have been out a few times with a mate in his gq with 35s vs my defer with 33s he was seriously shocked where it went . ie everywhere his nissan went except sometimes draging the salls . what ****s me the most is how wide the taller tyres are and the lack of taller narrow tyres the 33x12.5 tram line all over the place ect yet the 750x16s i use that are almost the same overall dia are fine. and the lack of decent mud tyres in the narrower size however i think simex do a 750x16 or there abouts un less doing realy rutted out over driven or rocky tracks the 35" and larger are bit of a ****
There is a pinnie in the LROCV that has simex 35's on it, virtually unstoppable.

I'm running 35"x 10" silverstone MT117 on my two door. Not good for the standard driveline though. They are a very tough tyre, last time I was out I aired down to 10psi and they still didn't bag much, will try lower next time.
Tyre - MT-117
I couldn't afford to run huge tyres ...you seen the price of those things !!
