Without your own inspection done on your own terms you have no solid basis for working out the value of the car. Dealers know that most private buyers make their decisions for reasons that are not exactly rational, so if the car's a dud he knows you might buy it anyway just because you really like the look of it.
Very true, I wonder what is really wrong with it!

Dave - yeah those are my thoughts exactly. So if I can sort an independent (well, AULRO !) inspection then all well and good. If they won't allow it I'll walk away.

Coopers Plains is a suburb or two away from me so if you need a hand just ask.

Is this either of the 4wd yards that are on the corner of Boundary and Beaudesert Roads? I never get a good vibe from either of them. Although the one across Beaudesert Rd from ARB always has a few very overpriced Disco1s there.

I have had friends given the car they were looking at overnight to check it out. They were new/newish cars though. If they won't let you have it checked at the place you want then tell them NO DEAL.

I'm afraid I'm not much of a fan of RACQ inspections for specialised stuff. I'd much rather a LR specialist that I trust. Hence VTs problem

I agree. Unless the RACQ guy is a Landy fan then he would do a worse job than your typical AULRO member and charge you $100 or so for it.

If it is one of the yards I mentioned then I imagine it is a 300Tdi. Neither of those yards seems to stock laterish model cars.
