    2-door Range Rover conversion to a 4bd1T

    I'm interested in buying a white 2 door Ranygie and convert it to 3.9 4BD1T isuzu ..but Before I do this I'd like your input..


    A)which year model 2-door would be most suitable for

    conversion to a 3.9 4BD1T ? or would they all pretty much qualify?

    Would L/R Running Gear be suitable to use ICW the 3.9 4BD1T?

    being a very Torquie engine ? and if so which Rover Running gear have you guys used?

    Also if you have done this Mod , who would be the best people to talk to in sydney with

    regards to this conversion?

    Plenty of these have been done.

    The four speed gearbox is well suited to the Isuzu engine (and in fact is often the factory box for 110s fitted with this engine).

    The rest of the driveline will cope adequately, and if / when you break something it is easy to upgrade components.

    KLR Automotive at Kingswood (Penrith) have converted several. The two principals, Matt and Brad, both drive 4BD1-T Rangies.

    Why a 2dr ? i love the 2dr shape but an early 4dr with lt95 would be a more practicle vehicle, the engines seem to be plentiful but the isuzu to lt95 bellhousings arent.

    I've thought about the practicality of a 4 doors, but I have no kids and since there is only myself travelling I will have no need for a 2nd row of seats , that way I can take out the 2nd row of seats and utilise the space in the back for gear, 2nd tyre spare etc, this will negate the need for a roof rack but also i'm also planning on getting a roof top tent so every bit of room inside will be utilised.

    and matt from KLR also told me the exact same thing with regards to Bellhousing , apparently they are as rare as Hen's teeth to source , unless to get hold of a Rolled 110D with a factory 4bD1T that way i can utilise the running gear from it..

    With 4 doors it is so much easier to get your crap out of the back when camping.

    No such thing as a "110D with factory 4BD1T" No defenders has 4BD1 engines (only 110 countys and 120 utes (made from 1984-1990) and they were NA). Only the civvie and military 6x6s had turbos from the factory - and finding one of them will be harder than finding a bellhousing. Series III Stage 1s also had 4BD1s.

    And 2dr rangies are getting long in the tooth now at least with a 4dr you can use parts from almost all the the later year rangies.My pic would be a late 84 or 85 phase 2 Rangie.

    I thought 110D with factory 4bD1T didn't sound right , How hard would it be to source a County with a 4BD1 , I haven't looked around , are they also rare , and with regards to the Bell Housing will I then have to get a one-off made up? if I can't source a bell housing.

    Countys are not incredibly common, but I have seen a few sell recently for the 4-6k mark. However you can probably pick up an engine and bellhousing from a landie wrecker for less (if you can find one). There are also a few bellhousings floating around for sale if you look hard enough.

    ALSO - only countys from 1984-late 85 were fitted with LT95 boxes, the later ones were fitted with LT85 boxes and LT230 t-cases.

    I take it the LT85 is stronger / better g/box than LT95 ?
