Hey mate - I have a Tirfor hand winch - excellent kit that you can use for rear or sideways recovery (as well as frontal). I got mine from ARB for $600.00 brand new - it was on sale as it had been sitting there for over a year - they were normally $950.00.

But there are 3 models - if it is a genuine Tirfor - all you will need is the mid size version - 1600kg lift rating and 2.5 tons pull rating ( I think from memory) - this model will suit all your needs - the one you are looking at is actually more winch than you'll need and is bloody heavy!

I'm a little suspicious of this winch. It says its a Titan Tirfor Winch. Tirfor is a brand in itself and the picture looks like a Tirfor style (there's a numberof them out there) not the real deal. There are 3 model Tirfor from memory: 800kg, 1600kg and 3200kg. The 1600 will get you out of most things and is about 2/3's the weight of the 3200 unit too.

That said I have a Tirfor T516 and wouldn't get rid of it. Can do a lot more than an electric winch (but with more effort).

I thought it must have been a tirfor brand also but some googling showed that this brand/model seems to only exist on ebay and I get a bit sus about things if the only place that it is being sold is on ebay especially when it is going to have so much force and strain put upon it. It could be a dangerous situation if this baby let go.... BUT it may be a good one.

Personally I would not get it as you can get a fully accredited/rated and tested one for not much more then the price on this.

The one advertised is too big for what you need, cable and winch would weigh more than a bar mounted winch, I would look at the smaller models, great bit of gear, if you get a snatch block as well you can reduce the amount of effort required, as long as you fix it to the load and not the other way round, Regards Frank.

looks scarily similar to the smaller of my 2.

aside from coming from a not so greatly rated seller probably worth having...

for all the same reasons youd buy a full price tirfor.

Dont judge too quickly on Negative Feedback I have a feedback of 97.8% as a result of me leaving Negative Feedback against 2 mongrels that failed to pay when they won the Auctions so they retaliated by leaving Neg. if i was going to have a winch it would be a hydralic or electric one on a bar hand winch is all too hard, that and i dont put myself in a situation where i'll need a winch, just a snatch out at best as the old saying goes i never go alone, but if i do the tassie trip that im looking at next year i'll be fitting a winch and bar
