    Test Drives Discovery

Went to look at a second hand 130 today, before I knew it the skilled salesman had me test driving a new Disco td5 deisel 2.7 and it was superb.
Next he had me in the petrol version 4 litre v6 and it was, for me, far less satisfying.
The reason for the post is the surprise I got over prices
    Deisel 2.7 drive away 86,000
    Petrol 4l drive away 66,000.
That is a lot of fuel!

I keep saying it all the time, the V6 petrol is cracking value at the moment.

They will, however, be worth less when you come to sell. Even so, worth considering.

The diesel TDV6 version is in demand because of it's 10l/100km economy and superb torque delivery which perfectly compliments the 6 speed auto.

I think the TDV6 SE price of $86K could be beaten though by about 3 grand after some haggling, at least that's according to the salesman I spoke to a couple of weeks ago.

Are you sure you were comparing the same spec models - 86K sounds like a SE with all the fruit.

The 66K sounds like a base model petrol.

Confirmed: Both models are current 2008 SE models with all the fruit!
20k difference in price.....more evidence that makers are overcharging for diesel models IMO
(PM me if you want this price.)

Just checked the Landrover website - the $66k is for a petrol SE,

A TDV6 SE is about $77K on the road

A TDV6 HSE is about $86K on the road - so the price you must have been given is the HSE - or else they are overcharging by 10K.

While - I would pay the extra 10K for the diesel - afterall it will be cheaper to run but more importantly resale is substantially better so in the long run is a cheaper car. I certainly accept different people have different thoughts.

You can buy 2yo petrol s models for under $35K if you look around carefully but diesels rarely are under $52K.

Don't think so... but happy to be proven wrong.

I think you are about $5K low on the TDV6 SE's on the road price, more like $82 to 83K (with metallic, all taxes, delivery, etc)

Don't have recent prices on the HSE, but $86K would also be very low, more like in the $90 K's.
