RR Service Recall imminent Front Diff. Failure in Australia

Land Rover Australia have told them they are aware of the problem, have received a number of reports of warranty claims for wear and will now conduct a field service campaign in the next "two to three months".
This is only one of the many problems that Land Rover is aware of and doesn't fix so sharing information can bring results, especially where 'safety' is concerned.
Australia has no lemon laws. If it did LRA, may pay a lot more attention to its customers and their quality and service
If you are in Australia and have had persistent, or major failures with your RR3 or Discovery3, let me know. I had 2 total failures of lights and engine on mountain roads at night in rain (Very frightening and LRA lawyers describe these as 'minor'). The fob off from LRA made me start looking to see if it was just LRA or LR culture worldwide and found this very informative site.

Yes, Baz. But I didn't know it affected the D3 (and presumably the RRS)

First I've heard of that. The D3 & Sport are a different design, as is the current RR that eliminates this problem.
There have been instances where the diff assy has been replaced on the D3 & Sport but it's not due to a failure, more a "sealed unit" replacement for a leaking seal.

LR are usually supportive of the diff problem & I don't think I've seen a repair knocked back by them. Whether it warrants a recall or not, I can't say.

Front differential/driveshaft seizures have not been a common problem on the D3 platform.

To my knowledge, the D3 has a completely different front diff assembly to the earlier models of the new RR.

I had two front diff failures on my 03 RR and both were fixed asap by my dealer and with Land Rover Australia’s prompt service.

Apparently the same can’t be said about Land Rover North America.

There have been heaps of reports of front diff failures over there and heaps of problems getting LRNA to do something about them.

The latest version of the new RR has a new front diff but I still think it’s a case of thumbs up for the great way Land Rover Australia are handling the problem.

Thank god it’s not the problem Toyota are having with their front diffs! You would never get it fixed.

I had the leak that Scouse was walking about and LR replaced it no problems at all. It was a persistent weep, not a failure.

In fact, I've had no problems with LR honouring the warranty at any time.

I have heard of one bloke in the UK whose rear diff failed, but that's the only one I know of.

    G'day Folks

I noted that in the December issue of Landrover Enthusiast Magazine that the Australian corrospondant Patrick Sutcliffe has a full page write-up on page 106 with piccie this is his second diff to strip the front shaft splines first one at 75,000Klm and this after another 45,000Klm and this is on a vehicle 2003 L322 Range Rover that new is not a cheapie

    cheers
