You could also pick up a brand new Ford Falcon for around $24,000...

You all seem to be missing the point, inflation and demand WILL drive up prices, no one is denying that... but... 80c/L in 2 years. Get real.

14... yep 14 years ago, LPG was 14c/L - today, 64c/L - average is 3c/Year increase - 80c/L in 24 months would be 40c/year... 3.5c/month.

I'll race for "pinks" - if LPG costs more than ULP by beginning FY2010 - you get my Landie, if it isnt - I get yours.

Any takers?

The facts are LP Gas will always be about halve the price of petrol for the simple reason no one will buy it if it was dearer.
It must be half the price as it is harder and more expensive to store and vehicles are slightly more expensive to manufacture with gas because of the steel pressure tank.

This is so true.:( Most cars use more and have less power unless full gas and modded. I converted one and with cost, Inspections, Engine Mods and more L/100 It does not look good. + The Tank takes up space:mad.
Isn't it obvious with installation subsidy they will eventually crank up the price. I don't Trust the shafting :censored:

Can't see it - the LPG market will be dead if it happened.

The moment LPG costs more than 75%-80% of the cost of ULP, any rational motorist will stop using it.

With its lower calorific value it produces around 20% less power than ULP, so there would be no reason to keep buying LPG unless it costs at least 20% less.

As long as LPG is considerably cheaper than petrol for every litre that I buy, I don't really care what the price of LPG is. Fact is, it's an inelastic demand - I need fuel to get from A to B regardless of the price.

If indeed petrol or LPG prices become absurd due to world market demands, I'll consider alternative forms of transport. Got to keep changing to survive this ever changing world. Trouble is, it's changing so fast for me! :(

The Fed govmt has little (other than excise and GST) to do with fuel prices.

Oz is a signatory to the OPEC oleogopoly. The producers control the price by controlling supply.

Even with Peak Oil, these guys will milk the profits for all they are worth. That is the capitalist system, optimise the equation: higher price equals lower sales , lower price equals higher sales. both skewed by supply /demand. Find the sweet spot for max profit and limit supply to that.

Anyone who thinks they can match L/100 LPG to petrol is a fool, more octane yes, but less BTU's for the same volume:(
