    V8 Disco fuel consumption

    Hey there,

just looked at a lovely 2000 Disco v8 Manual with less than 35,000km on it. Beautfiul vehicle, just need some reassurance about what to expect for fuel consumption and whether to add LPG to it?

    Please help!

    Roy,

    They are very thirsty.
Do a "Search" on "Fuel consumption" and you will get a lot of info.

I kept records on my D1 for 11 years - engine is same size but d2 has a better engine management system so in theory should be slightly better.

    Overall I averaged.

    14 l/100km at highway speeds - 110/120 kph - cruise on, a/c on (best was 12.5)

18 l/100km around town - big cities - a/c on (often got 16 but also often got 22)

22 l/100km off road - mixed high low range (often got 16 on good offroad high range - 40 in low range heavy sand)

25 l/100km towing car trailers with cars.

What I found was the same with most cars - tread lightly on the accelerator and you are rewarded - boot the peddle and you will be punished in a big way.

I found economy good considering you are pulling 2 tonne of brick - petrol patrols and cruisers are worse and my mates holden v8 utes were no better than the Disco.

    Cheers

I would take note of GarryCol's figures,,
The engine management on the D2 is highly refined,,, There is not a lot left to tweak,,
I get around 14 per hundred on the highway which is about normal for an unladen D2 V8,,
Modern Fuel injected LPG is really good in all respects,, but is around $4K,,

I would LATCH ON to a D2 V8 with only those kays,,

research on here about D2 V8 problems,, (overheating WILL cause slipped liners which is the THOR's major problem ).

But you should get an easy 400,000 kays with enthusiastic engine oil maintenance.

but first thing is you just rip the centre muffler out,, replace it by a piece of straight pipe,,,

Thanks - interestingly the pre update 3.9 disco (Nov 93 - Apr 94) was about 10% more fuel efficient than the 3.9s in the updates.

Rather than hyjack this thread I will put some pics of my jag in a new thread.
