Steep Point 1966 By Landrover
Heres some interesting footage of Steep Point WA back in 1966 taken by Mike & Mal Leyland at the start of there Australian crossing from Steep Point To Byron Bay ( long way Across) they beat Ewin & Charlie to that one.
Steep Point
Interesting to see how well those old landrovers go over the realy rough stuff dont think I would like to the disco through that. I got enough scratches driving on the well made track 40 years later.
I am off there again on Easter Saturday but this time by boat from Denham about a 70 k trip. The fishing here is some of the best I have ever encountered. Huge snapper mixed with Coral Trout ,Red Emporer, Cod, Bue bone , Mullaway and some of the biggest Tailor and Bream you will ever see.
I will take a digital camera with me for the first time and I promise to add some pics when I return a week after Easter.

Great find Mike. I vaguely remember seeing this footage when I was a kid growing up in what is now Kakadu in the NT. My father had an old series Land Rover at the time (that I learnt to drive in), and we spent a lot of time making our own tracks and camping in areas that few people had seen in those days. He worked then for a company called "united Uranium" - the tree huggers of today would be horrified.
Cheers .........
