its hard to decide when comes to our little one do we live in the city where there is every chance she get in trouble here as a teenager but at the same token country kids get up to mischief to due to being board
one day we will have to come back but that will like 15 years even sooner down the track as Dad lives alone and will need me at some stage of his life so comming back cant be help even if we dont wont to
Come up to Newie and commute to Sydney like the thousands of others each day.
I had to make a decision too and I bought in the blue mountains. Although I don't have acreage I have chickens etc.. and back on to the national park and over 1000 sqm for just over $200,000 with a 3 bed house on it.
It also meant that I can commute to sydney without to much hassle in either a car or train as they are quite reasonable.
I must admit I like the look of those places you linked too and wonder if I should of gone bush instead of just up here.. They look really great.

hahahaha try and buy in the mountains for 200k today I doubt that you will and again as advised Dubbo the price of Newcastle you might as well stay in Sydney 100 150 acres is so nice when you sit on porch and appreciate I would imagine
I'm in Orange and can tell you now, you'll never want to go back to the rat race. Having said that, be careful, I know a few families that have moved out of orange onto acerage and inside a year they are over it.
Having to travel to buy tea, take kids to sport, go to the doctor etc, etc.
Country towns and cities like Orange are great but the villages can have major drawbacks unless they are very close to the bigger towns. Farm life is generally for farmers. If you have to travel everday it can become very tiring.
As a general rule, if you are moving into an area you are unfamiliar with RENT FIRST. That way you get to know the area and can decide if it is for you before committing to a property that could take years to sell.
Also get a job before you move or you might be buggered especially in the smaller villages.
The areas you are looking at can be very hot, dry and dusty in summer.

My main point would be to carefully consider the isolation of living outside an urban area. The lack of street lights, quietness etc are fantastic, but remember that you will probably have to travel to town daily for work, food, schooling etc, which can really eat into your available time (and cash).
A model that I have found works is to live in a regional town (or city) for the daily convenience, but have some land out of town for weekender duties. That way you can have the town convenience daily and also have your rural pursuits. Accomodation at "the weekender" does not have to be flash as you only might stay 1-2 nights per weekend, and if it has no TV etc, all the better for the experience!! If the property is close enough to town (say within 1/2 hour), you can get out midweek to check calving etc when required.
