Yep, a 1/2 inch drive socket handle.
The real question here is "how the F....ar out did you manage that?"
I've seen that photo before somewhere. A recovery down the Royal National Park way from memory.
I got it! The handle was used to join two snatch straps however, the recovery was, shall we say "difficult?'
Actually off Garie Beach - I did post a series a while back (taken by a mate)
Correct - Nothing to do with me though, a Kluger and a 100 series (IIRC) Kluger was brand new, borrowed by a salesman, and spend the night below the high tide line :o

I wonder if the salesman still has the job...... If I remember the days when when my old man owned a car yard, he probably does:D
So, the Klager was snatched out, the sandcruiser stopped short, Klager didn't, and the straps parted on the first attempt?
Sound about right?
Ok, finally got the time to call Caldwells, (thank you very much Scotty) and they are a North Rocks Mental Association (NRMA!:D) approved reapairer.
Just in case any one else wanted to know......
Ron, I only check girls for hail damage!:p
