I think what you have there is a legless lizard. Not sure which one but it looks like a Burtons. Would probably explain why it wasn't in the book of snakes too.
OK then all you budding Steve Irwins out there.
Tried the I-Spy book of QLD snakes but couldn't spot it
Anybody know what this snake might be? Should I be worried?
On the basis that I went Swimming with it before I saw it. Only when I felt it tap on my shoulder did I think - "Oh dear - there appears to be a snake in my pool" - or words to that effect.

Definately a legless lizard, easy to tell by the shape of its head.

a master of invisibleness.
On the basis that it was brown and it looked like a snake, is there any slight possiblity that it might have been highly venomous? Otherwise I can see me having to tone down my heroic tales of wrestling with the poisonous local wildlife single handedly. Doesn't have quite the same affect when you say it's a legless lizard! And there I was tackling it at arms length with the pool skimmer net thinking I was within 3 foot of my maker.
But otherwise thanks to all the David Belamys out there - I feel safe to go back into the waters again.
Those lizards have sharp teeth.
You could have gotten a nasty bite.
Cheers
Simon
