Hi Guys,
I had a deja vu experience last night. Got home in the rain (rare enough here in Melbourne lately) and went inside. Had to go back out to stick the rubbish bin out and saw I had inadvertently left my headlights on. Switched them off of course.
Then I remembered last time I did that was on my old V8 Disco after coming back to a boat ramp in Corio Bay and finding a flat battery. I swore it wouldn't happen again and ended up wiring up a buzzer that went off when the ignition keys were removed and the lights were still on.
Before I launch off into Google I wondered if anyone else has done it and would kindly tell me how because I'm old and have forgotten where I wired it up. Otherwise I'll work it out with my DVM and post the details here if anyone else is interested?
Ironic really as the one of the main reasons I love my old Disco is because unlike the bloody Ford Escape it doesn't nag me every time I turn it on to fasten my seat belt or beep at me when I open the door and the keys are in the ignition.
Regards
Martin

No worries, will do Chris.
My '95 D1 beeps at me if I leave the lights on.....
... but, not until I open the door. I thought it was standard
I guess that a buzzer that picks up power from the lighting circuit, but doesn't get a earth until the door is opened (through the door switch) would do it. You'd probably need a diode inline or something else that someone else will point out

The later ones have it factory, you might be able to find out if there is a complete loom etc that you can just retrofit from a wreck. The lights chime is great but the key in ignition with door open drives me nuts, I don't know if the two can be separated (but I'm going off on a tangent here and bordering a hijack).
So, constructive offer; I'm not a sparky but I think you'll need two opposing +ve sources from the light circuit and the ignition, to the chime, with a diode between the ignition and the chime. Does that ring any bells? (excuse the pun).
It does Dan, thanks. I definitely remember wiring in a diode. I'll work it out and post pictures and details after. I only want it to buzz for the lights as the door open one with ignition key in really gives me the irrits ! Did I mention I'm getting old and grumpy ?![]()
It's all part of the MFU's (Mult Function Unit) job. I'm not sure on how you could wire in one to a vehicle that doesn't have an MFU though.
Perhaps an aftermarket product is available off the shelf?
Jaycar have a kit....don't know how much soldering is required or how it fits.

My 94 pre update v8 disco had a standard headlight alarm as did my 94 post update headlight alarm - so if you don't have one, maybe it is just faulty.
But then my update also had a none adjustable/none switch off speed alarm as standard that came on at 120kph - I understand that few if any others had this feature.
