Now a story from the other side, a buyer,.
Years ago the Missus and I were looking along Parramatta road for a cheap clunker to get us to work and back (Windsor to Sydney, Balmain.)
Spotted a "Cheap" looking VW in a cheap and nasty car lot, took it for a drive, was rough but ran well and would be OK for what we wanted it for.
Got back to the yard and the saleman says what did we think and make him an offer, so I ran the car down and offered him $300 for it.
He rubbed his chin and grumbled a bit and then said. Tell you what Sonny, give me $100 and its all yours.
Crikey (being polite here) I nearly fell over, shoved the 100 bucks in his hand, I asked why and he said if it was sold for $300 he would have to put 3 months warranty on it.
Being a Mechanic that didn't phase me, BTW the next time I started it (in the car yard) was the LAST time it ever started off the key, but it lasted 2 years and then I gave it to my Brother, it only lasted a week with him, honest truth, Regards Frank.

    I'll offer 7.5k

Why do people get sooky, when offered a silly offer, I deal with this stuff all the time, and you'd be suprised how many accept silly offers, i.e. my P38 for 4k

    I've only had good stories.

Sold my County to a guy from interstate who bought a one-way airline ticket. At 3pm he arrived and took it for a test drive and by 4pm I had my cheque and transfer papers and he was driving interstate to take it home.

He called a few days later to ask some questions and to say how much he liked it.

I've not gone sooky yet !..but if someone said 4k for mine it would be close to becoming a sooky moment...

I know its April 1st but I'm sure Fluffy is worth more than that !...I'm willing to haggle a bit ..but not by 50%...an old 91 classic went for 10k at the local car fair last week with 300,000k's + on the clock..

I would hope to get at least 15k for my old girl ..or is that still unrealistic ?

    cheers,
    Richard

Its a pain selling as everybody wants to buy it cheap but sell dear. Put your self in both positions. If you were buying would you not try and get it cheaper? In reality Discos and RRs do not have a high re sale value anyway.
Just set your price and don not budge if you do not want to sell cheaper, but also make sure the price is realistic. I have sold a few cars and bikes and if I have a price in mind I make this clear at the start of negotiations and what I will accept as offers. Most of the time as the prices have been right there have been no issues, even though they will still make a lower offer.

It had a new engine , gearbox , exhaust and tyres...very clean for a 300,000k rangie..the swine parked it next to Fluffy at the car fair..he was getting far more interest than I was

New owner drove it away after just 2 hours at the fair..

I sat there for 4 hours and had a few jokers saying that P38's are worth less than older classics anyway and I should re think my valuation !

    cheers,
    Richard

It may be worth 15k it may not depends on who has what to part with, mileage etc. I would not pay $10k for 91 RRC with 300k on the clock. I looked at one a couple of weeks ago with 200k on the clock and heaps of options for $7k.

I would try and get it cheaper if I was buying..but the offers I have had so far seem to be a bit unrealistic..even from the buyers stance..$7k & $9.5k so far..and they have both said that is their highest offer with no negotiation considered..take it or leave it..

I know I will probably end up selling it for a couple of thousand less than I want ..but these offers are taking the mick surely !..i'm not at the really desperate stage yet !..

This didn't happen to be just before Australia Day weekend, was it? A guy from VIC?
    Cheers
