Tyre kicking gone to a whole new level !

Selling the Ford Escape. Had a call from a Pakistani gentleman on Sunday who offered me $2,500 less than the asking price without even seeing it. Unbelievable.

Wife once sold a car to a guy who caught a taxi over to see it. Bought it there and then for cash. He had to otherwise he had no transport as the taxi had been paid and gone. It wasn't until he left that swmbo realised she had no transport to pick up the ankle biters from school. Guess who needed a taxi then. :o:angel:

If you are not desperate stick to your guns as there are always opportunists and dealers that pose as buyers to get cars cheap. I normally come up with a figure I want and what I could take worst case scenario that I could live with. I am assuming that yours is a P38 and should get somewhere between $10 and 18k depending on options, kms etc. Most P38s are cheap because the have done high kms.
Hope you get your price. Do a bit of on line research and see what they are selling for at both ends of the spectrum.

In Russia, the smartest car in town, GWM black 4x4 dbl cab ute with canopy. Put the for sale in the window, no phone number, no one has a phone anyway. Wake up the next morning and theirs 24 armed GAI ( traffic police) standing around it kicking the wheels etc.

For sale 400 000 roubles, I was offered 250 000, sold, no option, I think it was the fingers on the AKs that convinced me.

Thats sounds completely normal to me... I think you will find that everyone values vehicles differently. and your loss is always goin to be someone elses gain. It's fair in the end as you have to buy and sell all the time. Good when you buy and bad when you sell. But after a sale you generally buy again so its your turn for the good side of the bargain.

I often offer much lower than asking and at the same time I generally will sell an item much lower. So its not like I am a stooge!

Cheers Craig...I did a quick scan of ebay,carsales etc to see current prices of similar P38's and I'm in the same price range as most of them..a couple of sellers really 'dreamin' with $21k for a 98 4.0SE P38 and another 99 4.0SE for $22k...I'll revise my asking price a bit if I don't get many takers during the next week or so....like I said..not desperate to sell it immediately....

BTW..did you have a look at my Auto Italia photos ?..lots of cool Ducati's..

Did notice that one !...I was offered $9500 last weekend from a guy in SA willing to fly to Canberra and drive it back home..

Will revise my price in a few days and see what happens..but it's looking like i'm losing big time on this little baby..:(

Have spent $9000 on it myself and previous owner spent $4000 day before I bought it off him..

When I bought it last November..I was intending to keep it forever but life throws some challenges at you now and then and we have to move back to old blighty ..:(..if I could find a cheaper way of shipping to UK would take it with me..$7000 is cheapest quote so far..

Most P38's are cheap beause they're crap sorry to say. I know many people who have been burnt by them over the years and personally wouldn't have one myself, bit too hi-tech for me :(. if i dared to venture into one, post 99 XA series whatever it's called would be the go.

Although on the other end of the coin (my old man) has been more than happy with his 98 4.0 P38 Rangie. Dad's had a few issues more to wear than reliability and nearly has 200K on the clock now and strangly more reliable than the 88 Hi-Line he replaced it with (I parted it out after the goose who bought it smashed it).
