Cheers Mr Rovercare !!...I'll be hitting the 'prozac' soon if I see anymore of those prices being mentioned

Those are both 95 models without my flash 'go faster' Mondial wheels though

well...... had a guy come back in today after test driving a turbo cruiser wagon last week...... quite a nice bloke and he and i used to get around in the same kinda circles, so we both knew the score

he came in, said g'day, chatted a bit as he looked over the wagon, asked if we'd take X amount for it, ($500 less than we'd told him was the lowest we'd take) i asked my boss, went back and said sorry but no, we wandered around the lot for 10 minutes, he asked to speak with my boss, said he'd go and think about it, came back 10 minutes later with a bank cheque for the price we gave him, and he walked away happy

i've got the detailer kid going over it with a fine tooth comb making sure its clean for him, mightve taken a lil time, but we gave him our best offer, he didnt bust our balls over it, and he paid straight up, he made my day a lot easier, so i reckon i've gotta look after him

I nearly punched two blokes clean in the face who came to look at my Disco. One person said they wanted it fully detailed before they bought it because it was a little "shabby" inside. Sorry dude but find me another pre-MA disco that is this well preserved (no rips or tears on the seats, stains, holes, burn marks, screw holes, scratches) and I will be to BUCKLEY'S! If you want it detailed, get it detailed yourself! For all the thousands I've spent its still a very good deal.

The other's buying criteria was not how many kms, condition, servicing, off road work, recent repairs etc but.... wait for it.... "is it possible to sleep in it?" HA! Stop wasting my time please.

Another rang up and said "Hi, I'm from interstate and I'll offer you $x (it was half the asking price), so do I get on a plane or not?"... my reply... "No need to, bye".

I wont sell a car again, trade in, couldn't deal with the crap
now you should understand why car dealer's are so bolshy.....i was a dealer for 22 years, what you describe was my DAILY experience, 6 days a week.....i retired young-ish, utterly burnt out by the public, after a heat-attack at 35, a stroke at 50, followed by a complete nervous break-down at 55, all stress- related, as a result of dealing with motor vehicle sales....

If you're not desperate to sell, hold out for your price. All you need is the one buyer, the right buyer, and they may not have seen the ad yet. Or, someone who comes to see the car might come up to your price after thinking about it.

I held out for a premium price when it came time to sell my three year old WRX (last of the series, pre-bugeyes). It had low kms and was in impecable condition. Redbook and private ads suggested 20-26k. I politely declined phone offers of 12k sight unseen and 14k dealer trade ins, and stuck to my 30k asking price (just over 70% of the original price).

I met the right buyer one night at a large well lit petrol station. He came in a turbo Liberty, with his WRX owning mate. After looking the car over (and knowing where to look), I was convinced they were serious enough to warrant a test-drive. The mate did the test-drive and practically sold the car for me. Then it fell down when his offer only went as high as 26k and I wouldn't budge.

They were still good about it though, the mate reckoned it was just a waiting game to find the right buyer, who would appreciate the pristine condition vehicle.

We said our goodbyes, and as I departed the servo, one last check of the rear vision mirror showed the guy running after me, waving his arms frantically. He'd made the decision to come to 30k, I took a deposit, and delivered the car to him the next day. His girlfriend was thankful they wouldn't have to spend any more weekends searching for cars, which most were thrashed, and the bloke was more than happy with his purchase.

Best I did was back when I was 17. Advertised an old valiant in the paper with no engine or box with best offer. Only had one call and the guy came round to look it over so I showed him everything I know on it and just said make an offer hoping for $100-$150 for it. He turned around and said could you live with $500. Instant sale.
I had been given the car 3 months earlier and only work I had done was detail it till I could find an engine.
