I have driven a V8 Cruiser, it was a 70 series but same engine minus one turbo and the engine really is impressive, it does everything with such ease, but after watching the best 4x4 of 2008 segment on the other DVD the 200 series is far from being the perfect 4wd, the 3.0L patrol beat it in alot of the tests they did. If i wasnt a land rover fan and had to choose between the 2 the patrol would get my pic, the base model patrol is 30k cheaper (plus on roads) or i could have the top spec patrol with all the bells and whistles for a little under 20k cheaper and get a camper trailer with the change. The engine simply doesnt make it worth the money.

Toyota is really struggling with the LC 200. The main selling point is that it is a LC. If it wasn't, sales would be s##t. It does offer anything significantly over a 100 series as does the D3 over everything else.
The D3 is a defining 4x4 love it or hate it. All the 4wd mags have to write up Toyota etc because the majority of readers own these vehicles and don't believe that the poms could design something light years ahead of their trucks.

You know, as much as the biased journalism annoys me (Hence why I no longer buy the mag), LRA does have to take some blame for this.

If they had done half as much marketing, or put some more effort into both their delaer network and brand awareness/advertising in the past, Toyota would never have got to this position so easily. In the UK, Toyota and Nissan aren't even talked about in the same sentence as LR when people go on about "proper" 4WD's.

The funny thing is though is that Nissan does not have to pay 4WD Monthly to get publicity they know they can win

I would buy a Nissan over the 200 anyday but for the extra a D3 will look alot better in the drive

Hmmmm.... a LR dealer network.........that'd be nice.

The people outside Europe should be for what they have done to LR in Australia. The Japs are now building trucks almost as technically advanced (now that they have something to copy again ) but yes, if it all goes to crap, they DO have a dealer network that can cary out warranty repairs etc.
    LRA...hang your heads in shame

    hey boys and girls,

Dad has just gone and purchased a new 200 series Sahara 4.5ltr tt V8 Diesel,
I tried my best to talk him into the range rover, but he was persistent, hes been a toyota man all of his life.

Anyway, im kindof getting sick of all of this advertisement of "the best 4WD on earth" and "king of the Outback" i mean, Have a look at the thing, absouloute shocker... Mechanically amazingly, but bugger me if it was my money, Range Rover Vogue here i come.

    Anyway, my two cents,
    Have a good one guys

I agree, 4x4 Australia magazine have been the only one to have the balls to tell it like it is. its a nice truck, but its a truck with a luxury price tag and no luxury bits and pieces. The RRS, D3 and Vogue offer far better value for money if you are at that end of the pricing scale. but as mentioned above there is no dealer network, and until there is land rover wont sell the volume of vehicles that the other brands do.

I am a regular on the 4wd month site ..........but I have looked at the site and mag in a whole new way now.
The last two mags seem to be a propagander rag for Toyota.
About five threads started and in a differnt way complaining about the new way the so called 4wd of the year was carried out and the toyota propagander.
Every one of those threads were killed and disappeared quickly and the moderators defended the mag and videos.
I am liking the AuLRO site as there is no commercial direction to the site .
I will not buy the mag a gain for a while as a personal protest.
    I like free speech.

    Totaly agree on all points,

ACE next time someone wants to throw Toyota built the Snowy lie at you, remind them "Land Rover built the roads that Toyota drove on"
