More likely to be able to source the air filter from some other source. The matchbox size dump valveI would expect to be a bit more difficult to source from elsewhere![]()
What annoys me is some price comparisons in relation to size/materials etc.
I ordered today among lots of parts to get my gear box back on the road, a new air filter...big steel tube full of cardboard & rubber ring, large box it comes in $25.
The rather small rubber dump valve that fits on the end of the 300TDI air box $31.25 it fits in a match box almost, so go figure the value difference in the price.![]()

Agreed it isn't always dearer from a stealer... i remember a year or so back everyone with a fender was talking about the cup holders that fit on the transmisison tunnel... they were looking at imports for around $90 compared to the $110-120 from the independant aussie suppliers... then i went and grabbed 2 from the stealer at $77 each
On the otherhand... i went and priced a new 100a alternator for my fender, ended up getting for about $100 cheaper than the best price i could find through my landy mechanic.
Just shows that you really need to shop around on almost every part you purchase![]()

A number of the parts I've seen being sold by aftermarket suppliers are branded Allmakes. Many people have doubts about some of their stuff and would rather pay the extra (if any) for genuine.
It may be hearsay but the inconvenience and extra labour costs of doing it twice makes any savings on parts vanish.
I've found LR to be comparable in most cases and better in some.

RIP Bucko - Riding on Forever
Well
Just sent my 06 Defender in for an axle seal (**** itself at 58,000kms!??), alarm and other electrical gremlins (no brake lights) and the handbrake.
Will warrent seal and electrical stuff. NOT the handbrake cable as it is a 'wear and tear' item therefore not warrented!!!!
Price for cable from RoverParts = $72.60
Rover Dealer = $180.67 $300.98 Fitted!
Told them not to bother - also mentioned that my previous handbrake had lasted in excess of 200,000kms! He seemed un-phased! GRRR. It has rusted, and therefore must have been exposed to water!!!?? WTF.
Rover are just un-real like this.
Got my $$$ worth though -called RoverCare this morning, and sent the bloody thing to the dealer on a truck so....l feel a little better about things!
Ah. Feel better now!
