    Anyone on here - defender trailler???

    Just saw a white defender 110 300Tdi being towed behind a bus (motorhome) along Albany Highway (Perth) today.

    It was being towed using an A-frame, but it obviously had coupled brakes (hydraulic (or AIR?) lines running from the bus to the landie.

    Anyone from here? Pics to follow.

    Is that a trailer plate? Just had an "A" then a big space, and 3 numbers.

    Well spotted and impressively quick off the mark with the camera.

    I've often seem the likes of a Suzuki, RAV4 or a little Daihatsu, but never a proper 4WD apparently set up for some serious camping.

    Pity about the poofy wheels and I'm not too sure about the air horn on the Defender or the cover over the snorkel.

    agree on the wheels
    agree on the air horn

    snorkel - is this to stop the turbo spinning as it will be lacking lubrication since the engine is not running.....could also be a myth..

    I agree - snorkel cover would do nothing - apart from stopping a few bugs getting into the air intake. There won't be any airflow into the snorkel/turbo/engine at any speed.

    Air horn looked VERY silly up close. I didn't even notice the wheels - you guys are observant - but I WAS trying to drive safely AND take pics at the same time

    Also not sure what the big tarp on a frame in front of the 110 is trying to achieve. If it is a wind deflector it is not doing anything, but if it is to stop rocks hitting the 110 then it looks like it would probably work.

    Most interesting was the fact that this thing must have had coupled brakes. There were 2 lines (air/hyd?) PLUS the electric cables running between the 110 and the bus (have a pic but it is fairly blurry).

    I would say the tarp is to stop stone damage to the landie , and maybe the cables you saw were for trailer lights on the(landie)

    How do they get around the flat towing and constant 4wd issue, I certainly would trust the T/F case lever staying in neutral for such distances, I would think that removing both propshafts to be safest

    There were 3 cables. 1 was obviously electrical - the other 2 were obviously hoses of some description (not wiring). The 2 hoses had fittings that looked similar to compressed air quick connectors. I am sure the landie had coupled brakes.

    What is the issue with flat towing a constant 4x4? Would be the same as driving it. Towing a constant 4x4 with 2 wheels on a dolly/truck WOULD be a problem.

    i'd say snorkel cover is probably to stop dust - i would imagine a bus of that size would throw a pretty big cloud behind it on a dry red-dirt track. I know the engine isn't running, but I still reckon your filter would clog up quickly if you were clocking up the Km's...
