Agreed - do all the things you've been putting off.
What mileage is it? Change anything that is suspect or unknown or coming to the end of its service life - don't try & squeeze the last few kms out of these items.
E.g. on my big trips all the belts & hoses usually get renewed, often new batteries as well. Prior to my next trip the fuel pump is geeting changed, & the plastic oil/water exchanger is being looked at.
200tdis from memory have an awkward heater hose at the back of the head. And those plastic radiator plugs are asking for trouble. You'll inspect the timing belt beforehand of course.
And take some old, worn brake pads. Sand can chew out pads, & you don't want metal to metal.
