Well, something's improved anyway, when I was buying mine last OCT/NOV I could not get a brochure for love nor money, tried Canberra dealer, tried the web, tried at the Sydney motor show and eventually got one at Trivett Mascot.

I hope you've learnt your lesson Martyn. A PM usually works better, even though I'm not in Parts .

if you really want to have some fun with dealers ask them for a part for a series 2 landy and 9/10 times they get you the part for a disco 2, when you point out the window and show them the shed on wheels they get you a deefer part then when you try to explain that its a 66 model you will usually get

    "they made landrovers back then?"

"In a Landrover the other vehicle is your crumple zone."

For spelling call Rogets, for mechanicing call me.

our local steeler sells jeep as well. now unless you knew this was the dealer you would think it was just a chrysler dealer no signs no landys to be seen jeeps all over the joint walk in to spares and you see jeep hats shirts coffe mugs stubbie holder all that ****. and dont dare go in there with out your vin number. i have got them out of asking for the vin now they just look up defender year and engine type and there in to the parts system i tell them what i want from a part number or from the pics on there spares program. easy as that but make it out to be a big deal.

Been there done all that - but aren't the actual cars at the old yard up on Melrose Drive?

No VIN does cause them a problem at the Jeep spare parts counter (they must not pay much because the guy at the service desk also stacks shelves at my local Woolies).

When I tried to order a radiator hose for my Freelander recently I learnt why they needed the VIN - now there has only ever been one L series Diesel Freelander and as such only one hose - so in theory just look up the book and find the hose. He kept on telling me that he had 6 listings for L series diesel top radiator hoses and couldn't help - I insisted there were not 6 versions. Any way I gave in and gave him the VIN and ordered the bit.

When I picked it up I took the guy to task again - then all became clear. The parts listing is not just on vehicles sold in Aust - it is an international listing and even though there is only one configuration for the part I was after for Aust vehicles, around the world there are 6 different versions of the top radiator hose - even though Landrover Australia only stocks one sort - obviously the one to fit the Australia version.

And yes this stealer would try to convince you that a Diesel Jeep Cherokee is a more capable vehicle than a D3 and would prefer to sell you the Jeep - commissions must be better.
