Fitting Ladder to Rear of Landrover Defender

I'm fitting a ladder to the rear of my LR Defender 110 Td5 CSW.

Am wondering whether, at the TOP, for reasons of extra security/ safety, to use a metal reinforcing plate on the inside of the bodywork, through which the bolts would go.

    Is this advisable / necessary?

Hi, I used two large washers when I installed mine on a county. The metal plate sounds like a good idea .Maybe some corrosion proofing would be a good idea,e.g. Sikaflex between the steel plate and the alloy or maybe a heavy alloy plate instead of steel. Cheers, 130man.

Have you already got the ladder or are you making one? If your making it, what about using grub screws and clamping to the gutter instead...
