January last year on Bogong High Plains, about mid day the fog was pretty thick and we could hardly see the lights of the vehicle in front.
But worst I have experienced was many years ago heading for Barrington Tops after midnight.
Driving up the big hill from Moonan Flat, the fog was so thick we could not see the road. Crawling along in 1st gear, we could only judge where the road was from seeing where the edge grass was.
If we are talking snowboarding then the worst I've seen was in NZ on Mt Ruapehu. Was coming down the mountain and it was so bad that I was just following the orange painted trail markers (like a star picket). Sometimes it got so bad I couldn't see the next one so I just sat and waited til I could.Quote:

Later on the same trip with similar but better conditions I thought I new where the trail was so I got a bit of speed up and flew off the edge. Luckily I landed in fresh snow like one big pillow. Very lucky.
Worst fog I have been in is normally from my house to the Barton Highway (Around Yass). Fog can stay till 2pm during winter in Bowning. I'm often doing 40km/h in the highway due to poor visability and the trucks are doing the same or slower. I won't go below that as the cars still fly along and swerve at the last second. On the worst days I will have the window open and my head out to see.
Been in some pea soupers (fogs in my time) but the worst visablity was during a thunderstorm one Sunday morning in Gladstone nearly 30 years ago, had to stop as I could not see the end of the bonnet.
Worst one for me was one easter about 12-13 years ago...Left Melbourne at 3am to beat the traffic heading for Renmark...Got somewhere around the Macedon Ranges and had to stop....
We paced it out and 8 steps from the car and you couldnt be seen.
Skiing at La Plagne in France a few years ago. Fog/cloud was so thick I couldn't even see my skis under me! Fortunately gravity generally only goes in one direction, but is it the wierdest sensation to think you're going down and then you just kind of stop and realise you weren't.
For me, I have two that were as bad as each other
Macedon Ranges and the Melba Hwy between Coldstream and Yarra Glen both around 4-5am
1st place: West of Dorrigo on Waterfall way (Thick and consistently there)
2nd place: Everyones favourite - GUYRA!
3rd place: N/W of Gloucester on Bucketts Way
The one I'll always remember was one Friday night driving to Jenolan Caves from the Oberon side. You could not see past the end of the bonnet (though the old Torana did have a long bonnet:D) and the road was gravel with no lines or guideposts. The only way to progress was to edge along in 1st gear watching out the driver's side window, judging an appropriate distance to keep off the RH road edge. The passenger's job was to spot out the front for other vehicles or obstacles!!
I remember a couple of years ago, heading up to falls creek late on a friday night. Between Mt Slide and Yea I think my top speed was 50k's but usually about 30 following the white line, Then lifted a bit then back down nearly all the way to seymour, That trip took nearly 6 hours, because we hit fog again between Mytlleford and Mt Beauty, in the many trips since I've never seen it that bad.
I Had my fog lights on though :p
