Where is / was the worst fog you've ever been in?

Carrying on from the discussion about Fog lights in the "Victorian.. nanny state" thread I thought I'd start this one to see where people have experienced the worst fog.

I've been in some pretty thick pea-soup fog overseas but I'm talking about Australia.

When we were bringing the dogs back up from N.S.W. to Qld once I had to pull over at a place call Guyra as the fog was so thick I could barely see 10mtrs in front of me and there were trucks were still powering along.

Even though the posted speed limit in town was 60kph I reckon I had slowed to near 20kph at times - outside of town it was 100kph but I reckon I had slowed down to 40kph at times.. it was just that thick you couldn't see anything - even the trucks were slowing down, you couldn't see the road, the corners, nothing.

Boy was I glad to hit the town and find a place to pull up for the night.. was pretty hairy...

Worst fog/mist i ever experienced was somewhat self induced. A very early morning ride up the freeway from Sydney to Lake Macquarie - first long ride on my L plates.

The early morning mist clouded my helmet visor so I could barely see - hadn't used a water dispersent. So I opened my visor & the mist clouded my glasses.

Had to ride through the mist peering out over my glasses (therefore blurry) and under my visor.

All I could see were faint white lines besides me, and a sudden brightening of the mist as a truck roared up behind me, overtook, and then tail lights vanishing in front. Felt I had to keep at the speed limit so as not to get run over!

I was very glad when it cleared.

The worst fog I have ever experienced was in the late 80's coming home from a hunting trip out at Condoblin. We drove through the night to get back to Sydney and we got the Blue Mountains around 3am and it was getting thicker coming up Mt Victoria. When we got to "Bleak-Heath" the fog was so thick that i adjusted the driving lights down to a few feet in front of the vehicle and turned off the headlights.

Drove like that at about 10-15klm till we got to Medlow Bath outside the Hydo where we pulled up and had a sleep as we could not even see the centre line on the highway.

Another bad place is near Bulli. I still can't understand how some people on the freeway down to Woolongong drive through thick fog at 100klm plus. They must have radar.

Get it quite often up in the mountains. Just the other night I reckon no more then 15 meter visibility. Sometimes it is worse then that though.

Near Howard in Qld (near Maryborough).

The old highway I think it is dips up and down and in the dips you couldn't see a thing but the high parts were fine. Very late at night.

Worst fog I have come across was feeling my way out of Hastings boat harbour (Western Port Vic) with the echosounder - made a wrong guess as to which way the channel was when it suddenly started to get shallow, and spent the next tide on the mud - very visible when the sun came out half an hour later.

Maleny of all places, riding up to a swap meet. Suddenly entered the clouds and literally could not see beyond my front wheel.
1st gear the rest of the way up. Came apon a Harley Sportster and only saw the tail light at 2m away from him/her. I wasn't game to back off any more because I then wouldn't see if he/she braked untill it was too late. Mates behind me must have felt the same way, so we had a little convoy of bikes feeling their way up at barely tickover and no more than 1.5m apart.
Certainly tests your concentration. What scared me was I expected at any moment to find a car pulled up on the narrow road like people often do in heavy rain.
