Done mine to. I've got a 12V Bosch with a keyless chuck on which the locking mechanism is cactus.
To open/close the chuck you just have to put it into low range now. Its got a 3m cord on it now and fitted to a 50amp anderson plug which plugs into the outlet on the towbar from the 105a Gelcell.
Cheers,
Ive got one Ive been always meaning to convert, the drill has been used 4 or 5 times.
lost the reciept, got a new charger 1st failure(3 weeks old) that charger lasted 4 weeks, after the first hassle I didnt bother going back for another.
Seeing this thread reminded me,must dig it out and convert. Its a 14.4V,I imagine it should run OK on 12V.

I'm not sure how old all those batteries (drills) are?
my $40 GMC thats 7 years old still runs fine,, takes around 7 hours to charge, lasts a while,, depending on what you drill,, but is still a bargain,,
the dummy battery pack is a great idea!!
especially since I have a 10 metre 12V extension lead:angel:
(usefull for radios, air compressors and fridges)
Only 2 cells in your battery pack or 2 faulty ones?
I pulled apart one of my DeWalt batteries today (12v) and it had 10 in total.
Considering how old the drill is (got 2nd hand six years ago) I think it worthy of all new cells in its battery packs.
I plan on repacking one battery pack at least.
When can you get these replacement cells from ?
There was a place in Dandy (what CAN'T they do in Dandenong?:D) that re packed an old laptop battery for me. I forget the name as it was a few yrs ago.
Here's a couple:
Battery Doctor : Battery repacking and a huge range of new batteries
Battery Works - What Is Battery Repacking?
Only thing I found though is that most place cant pack Li-ion.
(that is to say, most = all)
You can get some cells from Jaycar but they don't carry a particularly wide range.
I had a Canon Video camera 20 years ago that was 6V. We took a motor bike battery camping and ran alligator clips to the battery compartment of the camera. We were camping for 2 weeks in the high country, so couldn't recharge.
I wish I hadn't been tempted to get an 18V cordless drill last time. The B&D hasn't spontaneously combusted yet, but the batteries are pretty poor. On the plus side the heavier Bosch 240V drill runs off the 600W power invertor, but a small light 12V unit is the go. Thanks for the reminder, I should keep an eye out for a cheapy at garage sales.
