I have an ARB roof rack ex ebay, a high lift jack, a pair of long range tanks, air pump, chains and straps, all sitting in my shed at the moment. And they all weigh a heap... the tanks must be 40-50 kg and the rack at least 40! Jack, 15kg!
Add this to the ARB Bullbar, bigger tyres and the LPG tank!
Accessories make your truck really heavy, which means you need heavier duty drive and suspension components - which add more weight! Which means you get stuck easier, which means you need more gear to get out, and you use more fuel which means you need to carry more weight... and you travel slower so you are away longer so need more supplies!
I'm in search of equilibrium!
The mass of the land rover is proportional to the weight of the accessories plus the weight of the vehicle multiplied by the distance between fuel stops multiplied by the terrain!
I think that's getting close!

All that weight surely can't be good for fuel consumption.
I can't believe how expensive fuel is these days. I think I could be convinced to part with some of my accessories, just so I can get some economy back!![]()
Pretty much why I carry nowt in the car. And the rear wheel carrier and bar can go if I find a buyer.

I recently weighed my Disco and was horrified to see that it was 450kg over basic spec weight. Thats the equivelent of carrying four grown adults in the car on every trip.
I've now removed the roofrack and am making a hoist system to lift it on & off as required.
The truck was weighed without the Roof Tent...so you can add a whole lot more to that figure when going out on longer trips or camping.
I've stripped out the rear storage draw system that was made from heavy marine ply and am now making a slide in box system from square section alli to take wolf boxes etc. These can be slid in and out as required or left in the shed when I'm simply out driving. There's no point in hauling all this unessesary weight around every day of the week.
Filling the twin underneath fuel tanks adds another 80kg...so they only get filled when I know I'm going to be away from the black top for a few days.
Fuel is just cheap over here...but still I want to maximise the distances I can go between fill ups or start searching for a fuel pump in the middle of no where.
When fully loaded my old 130 weighed in at over three tons! Now that's heavy!
would the bar and wheel carrier fit my disco ron????
Ad a 40l Waeco. Disco is on an eating binge.
Is that Alloy square pipe with those plastic corner pieces any good?
I was going to weld up a shelf system in the rear but I think that will be too heavy!
