What about diesel gas.A mate of mine has it on his Tdi and on diesel gets 700k's from 70 ltrs but on gas gets 900k's from 70 ltrs of diesel and 16 ltrs of gas.So for about $11 in gas gets an extra 200k's.He doesn't have any extra's on his wagon and drives easy so he saves alot in weight and steady driving. Ask Fred, not sure what his handle is(which would probably help!), he's just put an overdrive in his Td5 'fender and he couldn't be happier! Reckons it's excellent. I believe it was easy to install, and cost around $3000( (I think)

The problem is the torque band..... if you drop the RPM, you might find that at 90kmh your out of the Torque band and then to get back to 100kmh you have to drop a gear....

Its not worth the hassles... and 650km out of a tank is great....

Ive got a Mazda Bravo BT50 Turbo Diesel Work car.... its gutsy and has great power for a 2.5l and the economy...... 500km from 60litres.... so the TD5 is a lot better... and mine does not weigh 2 tonne like a defender

i guess thats why they did the turbo tweak and remap the pump with the fitments of the overdrive to improve the torque range with the over drive and with a final bill of $6,200 with out the cruise control it had wanna be worth every red cent.

A few facts from actual road tests.

A friend of mine (mentioned elsewhere on this thread) has fitted an overdrive to his Td5 Defender and after about three months and a few long drives, is very pleased with it. Cost was in the order of $3,000 to $3,500.

However, some time ago he has also fitted an Alisport chip & larger intercooler and has had it finely tuned on Graeme Cooper's dyno.

Prior to fitting the O/D he was getting consumption of around 10.5 l/100kms at around 95 to 100kph on a country run. After fitting the O/D he is now getting about the same consumption but is travelling at around 110 to 115kph.

Revs have dropped from 2500 to 2000 at 100 (or maybe 110kph)
    Roger
