Hi Mc
Visit a camping shop. There are crayons that you can rub the zips with to seal them.

Not happy Jan.....
Last night while camping out near Wilsons Prom we had to stay in the inlaws Camper trailer as the Roof top tents zips decided to leak.
The canvas was fine but 16mm rain was enough to force its way through the zips and soak the mattress which in turn of course soaked a couple of pillows and a doona.
Other than that, was the first time we set the whole thing up with the second room and all and it was great.
With the Zips, my question is, what do I use to water proof the Zips? Wax maybe or silicone spray?

Silicone spray does nothing for waterproofing.
Actual zip wax sticks seem to work better than regular candles (tried both). They seem do be of a higher density than regular household candles.
Dave.
Lanolin would've helped.
I carry a can in the car in a wire basket zip tied to the cargo barrier. It has about a billion uses and counting
just off of the phone.....
candles are what you use if you have nothing else. (unless you like buying those expensive hippy enviroshop hug a whale and snooky a tree beeswax candles)
the waxy lanolin is good (same kind of thing as drizabone dressing)
the crayon from camping stores is usualy a refined form of either beeswax or a jelled lanolin
silicone based sprays work and you can also use spray cooking oil or in a pinch wd40 or the like (inox is a lanolin based spray so should work well)
they are all best applied while the zip is open to the teeth, then again once closed up for best protection but if you in a hurry and the zip isnt in a position that water will pool then an application to the outside face of the zip while closed works a lot of the time.
if you can deal with the smell you could use congealed cooking fat or lard and if its only very temporary a hard rubbing from a bar of soap will provide some relief.

Bad designed camper by the sounds of it... Most have storm covers over the zips, but as i'm not there to see it, i might be wrong and it might be a good camper and the rain and wind might have been harder than its design.
Pix please....
