Petrol is still cheap

I think a big reason why people complain about fuel is not so much the price itself but the fluctuation. Changes in daily prices make it pretty clear that we are being ripped off - when prices go up 10 to 15 cents before a long weekend you know you are being gouged! :mad:

Even diesel prices become relative when you think about it like that.

If diesel is 33.3 c/L more expensive than petrol, then every 3 litres costs $1 more. So 30L of fuel costs $10 more in diesel than petrol. 30L gets 300km at 10L/100km.

I'd could cut $10 a week spending pretty easily if I wanted to. Less coffee & less take away. My wife's been going thru pregnancy food cravings for the last few weeks, probably spent a fair bit just trying to find her food she can keep down!

Home phone & internet cost about $110/month = about $25/week
Mobile bill about $60/month = $15/week.
I just need to make less phone calls to afford my diesel.

I guess it does just come down to what we expect to be able to have in our lives.

I know we all lke to have a little whinge about petrol prices and so forth .... but you are right when you put it into perspective ........

Milk is about 2 bucks a litre .......

Some people buy bottled water at 2.50 a litre ????? what's with that ... tap for me ...

Litre of scotch - $50.00 bucks or so .......

Energy drinks, lattes, wine, the list goes on, people buy smokes for 12 or 13 bucks a packet, might as well just roll up your ten bucks and smoke that

It's all relative man, oh yeah, I still buy the Scotch though, helps me forget about expensive petrol .... ha ha ha .....

I do ask when folks compare housing costs of yesteryear with those of today, that we compare apples with apples. I grew up in a 3 small bedroom, 1 toilet, 1 bath/shower, carport, no garage, no screens or floor coverings, no ceiling fans or A/C, 1 lounge, no rumpus, cinema or family room. It was weatherboard, corrugated iron roof, lowset on wooden stumps all of 6 or 7 squares. Small electric hotwater system and no insulation.
I would love to know what one like that is worth today, assuming you could sell it!

It would probably be worth heaps. As the outlying suburb it was in is now inner city :)

Its good to put things in perspective and I agree with what you're saying.
But for some reason, it seems to hurt more these days than it ever did.

Seeing the dollars go up faster than the litres on the bowser readout does it for me:mad:

fuel is to espensive!!
has near doubled in the last 12 years
i dont think wages have doubled (mine haven't)
