    Posting ettiquete

    Hello all,

Being a bit of a novice with displaying pictures I have been wondering about the best way to post them.

Is the there an unwritten (or perhaps written - I'm not good with instructions!!) rule/preference on how to post pictures. Embedded pictures which could be a pain for dial-up users or thumbnails that require a further page to be opened.

MMM stick them in the gallery or a account with some one like photobucket

If you wanted to be real bandwidth friendly, you could make a photobucket album and then just stick the link to that album in your post... But I just embed the pictures into the post, at least that way you can have text with the picture.

    OR,

I've just thought of another way, when uploading a photo to photobucket, you can select it to be saved as a small photo. I usually go for 800x600 pixels, but you could if you wished go for something like 640x480 pixels to reduce the size of your embedded image.

and also resize them so that they fit on the screen when the thread is viewed. I set mine to 480x640 72dpi. A big pic that fits, resolution is enough and still quick loading.
    Cheers

hmmm, the forum software contracts it, but you can still see it in the links you've posted.

The other bit of etiquette with picture that people should remember is don't quote in reply them unless its really necessary... Quoting pictures wastes so much real estate on screen and in some cases bandwidth if your browser decides to download both copies.

I think you got the thumbnail size image Slunnie ebcause you linked to the smaller version of the image, the links you used are slightly different to Xavies. The forum doesn't reduce the size of the photos by default.

I'm pretty sure it only downloads it once, and then stores it in the cash box or whatever its called for use in the near future.
