Thread: Discovery 1 or Series IIA

I'd be keeping the P38 or the D1. I'm not sure which though. Probably the P38 if it was on gas and D1 if it wasn't. The P38 is a lot nicer than the D1 and I'd just rather have those luxurys and compromise a bit while touring than have the D1. I guess another question to add to this, is what type of touring are you looking at? Will the P38 have the fuel range to do this type of stuff?

I wouldnt want to rely on a P38 for any touring further than the nearest safeways, even with 270k the disco will be far more reliable- the IIa doesnt compare to either as a tourer.

As it's you I will do you a favour and take the 2A off your hands so you can keep the P38A for round town and turn the D1 into your tourer.

The 2A would look great done up or as a project car for now but you will haveto think about how much you want to spend and if your into the resto work. Also how will your better half feel with the luxury of the 2A or D1.
Let us know which way you go.
You could build a nice camper on the back of the 2A though.

Sell all 3 of them and buy the 4BD1 110 county in the markets section

Sorry, I've added a bit more info. I was a bit rushed before I finished work this arvo.

The P38A is fitted with sequential gas injection and has 210 litres LPG/petrol capacity. I'd like more LPG.

I have no problems with reliability for general touring but I don't know that I'd do the Simpson or the Cape with it. Most of my touring is easy highway stuff with a bit of rough dirt work that can't be done in, say, a Forester. I'm not into rock-hopping or possible vehicle damaging stuff, or even mud-bogging.

I like camping, my wife doesn't so we don't share camping holidays. I go by myself. The Disco would be ideal for that as it could be set up as a 2-seater with the cargo barrier moved even more forward or with a bed in the back. It would effectively do what I bought the County for, i.e., be permanently set up for off-road and camping so I can just add food and go.

From every angle, it's a far better vehicle, in my opinion, than the County. It's more comfortable (heating and air con - not necessarily the seating), my arm doesn't freeze against the door frame, it's quieter, the rear door is bigger (you can get a pallet in through there). It's slightly more waterproof - it's more fuel efficient than my V8 County was but that's unimportant, really.

As it wouldn't be a daily driver, it wouldn't matter that it was carrying around all the weight of camping stuff, drawers, winch, etc.

If I was just road touring, I'd probably just set up the Nissan Civilian bus (diesel) as a camper. It's very easy to drive albeit slow. However, I think it will be sold shortly.

The thing with the 2A is that you probably wont get much of a financial gain by selling it and once it is gone you mightnt get a chance to get another if you change your mind. Why not keep it just in case.

I actually thought about that. Transport to the winner is the problem. The winner would have to arrange their own. How many tickets @ $10 each?

Then again I might be swayed by the fact I have one too!
