    Burr coffee grinder recommendation

    Hi

Can any of our coffee heads recommend a burr grinder?

I have browsed through a geek site or two but they are all passionate about homemade coffee, have ultra top end machines and never agree with one another anyway.

I love a good cup of coffee but only make one at home infrequently. I use a plunger or italian stove top and don't want a domestic espresso machine or an ultra top end grinder but do want to make the best coffee I can using what I have. Experts tell me that getting rid of my blade grinder and using a burr grinder will lead to a jump in quality.

Not after a top end product as you can see from above but hate buying rubbish.

    Any help gtatefully received.

    cheers

budget? a good one will require you to spend hundreds...

Personally I've had a couple of good ones - rancillio rocky and a mazer mini... the mazer beats the rocky IMHO for fine espresso grinds...

however to save some coin, unless you drink a fair bit, an old (or new) hand grinder will do the job just fine as long as it is adjustable and the burr is in good nick...

    Gaggia.

Maybe a bit more of a "top end" grinder than you are looking for, but ours has worked flawlessly for five years and is tough as nails.

I can tell you what not to buy: Breville or Sunbeam

I'm still looking for a good one, I understand the Gaggia is good (and it would match my Gaggia Classic ) but there are a few others that get good reviews.

I have a Saeco mc2002, the CoffeeGeeks are very down on it here, I went from years of using spinny blade things, and it may not be the bomb, but it is significantly better than the spinny blade grinders.

I was finding that to get the fine grind I wanted from the spinny blade I would also get powder that went through everything and clogged stuff up.

The Saeco does not do that. I didn't hold with all the choo about burr grinders, until I got the burr grinder. Any burr grinder is better than a spinny blade one. Some of the rest is forum hype.

I'm also in the process of a ground-up rebuild of a La Cimbali Junior, and after the slagging I just read about the Saeco, I guess I will be keeping it, not selling it.

Have you read this - http://www.coffeeco.com.au/articles/september2002.html

    Cheers

The Gaggia we had failed miserably after a short peroid of time, it was noisy too. Now we have a Krups, no failure yet, somewhat more silent.
