HID Lights

you won't need to upgrade the wiring with HIDs as they only draw 35w much less than standard Halogen globes. You will be blown away with how bright they are. Everyone that sees my car at night pretty well goes out and buys a set of HID's.

With all 6 HID's on going down the high way, I can't read speed limits, the white of the signs reflects so much that it drowns out the numbers.

Whether or not this is a consideration for you, I don't think the bi-xenon kits are legal, but I have never had a problem. Been pulled over a few times and it has never been mentioned.

I just did Tim's upgrade and fitted the whitest available Philips bulbs and the difference is amazing. Just beware if you fit HIDs to the headlights, make sure you don't get them too blue - if its blatantly blue, it'll attract the police attention, and as with all illegal mods, that's the last thing you want:D

As I said above, the police won't pick up on it unless it appears very blue - what happened to my cousin's MB is that they hold a white notepad in front of the light, if it shows white, they don't usually go any further, if it shows blue, they will yellow sticker it and may look under the bonnet.

As I mentioned in my previous post white is 43-4500 kelvin. That's good to know though!

FWIW My cousin had 6000k and they were just too obvious for an after market job.

Sorry been looking at the link you gave me. A good site and plenty of info. Looks like I'll be installing a set and 4100 odd K. Obviously the Auto lecky that got me on to this Idea is making some good stuff out off the deal as he quoted me $450 to provide the kit and Install theme.(driving lights and Hi beam not spotts) He has'nt told me what brand or Kelvin they are. I Assume he is usinga legal Kelvin as hes an NRMA approved lecty but I'll ask.

In terms of aftermarket HID kits, no kelvin is legal, but a less blue K will be less likely to attract attention.

Yes HID are worth the money, but the figures you are quoting seem a bit low, I paid over a grand for my HID kit in my previous car, the expensive bit isn't the bulbs its the ballasts.

There is alot of cheap stuff coming out of china right now and if you are getting the ballasts for $450 then I would double check they are a quality item.

I had 6k bulbs and the light was blue when you first turn them on but after a couple of minutes when they warm up they produce a more white light.

When I bought mine a couple of years ago it was made quite clear to me that these were not to be used on the road as they aren't legal. It might have changed now but it wasn't legal then, at least not in WA. PC plod isn't that bright (no pun intended) and they probably won't know the difference.

The kits that you can buy off ebay are very very simple to install. They actually don't require any wiring since the ballasts connect directly into the 3 pin H4 connector. All you have to do is find somewhere to put the ballasts and you are done. Would save you $250 easily from what your electrician would charge. But then again if you really want hassle free I suppose you can always just fork out the $450 and leave it for someone else, that way if anything does go wrong you can go back to him (or her perhaps?).
