Sorry to hear it. Good on you for not letting your mate roll further down the hill.

The only accident my dad's ever had was when he deliberately drove into the path of an out of control (strangers) car in the Snowy Mountains. Stopped him dropping off the road into a ravine thing.

Any chassis damage? Insurance may want to write it off.

no chasis damage that I can see.

I'm worried they might try to write it off.

If they do will prob try to buy the wreck and either convert to a 110 ute or buy a td5 and change the driveline etc over.

It sounds like a major repair - labour wise (easy for you or me).

You are looking at:
rear door
complete rear tub
rear sides.

That is about 30-50% of the bodywork. lots of labour to unbolt the roof, and all the other parts, bolt everything on and respray.

If there is any chassis or roof damage I would say definite writeoff. Given the redbook value of a 300Tdi these days.

Hope it all goes well, I would be buying the wreck back too.

If it is a major repair and NRMA decides to write it off.

1) do i have access to the wreck before they write it off to pull off accesories and personal goods before they write it off? - should i do that first?
2) do I have access to buy the wreck
3) can the wreck be insured again if I buy it and fix it privately
4) what are my other options.

twin locked
maxi low gears
maxi axles and ashcroft cv's
lightforce lights
drawers
compressor
brand new muddies
shower
camp lights
winch + plasma rope
radios
upgraded sound system
cargo barrier

I've spend hrs and thousands and don't want to lose the car.

Any help appreciated.

Are you going through your insurance or your mate's???

I am no expert, however AFAIK:

If your insurance company, you aren't allowed to remove anything from the vehicle. As far as they are concerned they own it if the vehicle is written off. That said, if it isn't listed on your policy - who's to know??? (but most insurance companies consider unlisted items their property as well)...

Once you agree on a payout value for the writeoff, the vehicle becomes their property. Some will let you buy it off them directly, with others you must go to the damaged vehicle auction.

If your mate's insurance, I believe things are different. They will pay you the cost of repairs/replacement (whichever is less) and it is up to you what you do from there.

Also there are two types of write off, an economic write off and a statutory write off. The former you can certainly repair and re-licence the latter no. I'd say you were definitely in the former catagory if indeed it is written off.
