    diesel $$$$$

Was chatting to a bloke today whos brother works for Worsley Bauxite,on the mine in Quindanning.
Apparentley the alumina refinery where the bauxite is sent via conveyor had their gas cut off as a result on the nor west gas explosion.
They cant get coal to power their own power station so are using diesel to power it.
Apparentley they are burning $750 000 worth a day
This is only 1 instance. Many other mine sites having to do the same
I tell you diesel fuel in australia is going to be hard to buy, never mind the cost.
OVER $2 a litre in the next few weeks is the tip!!!!
It wont be a WA only problem, all the diesel in the country will be heading west at the moment

    Hi Sly
$1.87 yesterday.Havent bought any for a while, the red light aint far away.Generally our locals are the same or better than Perth, usually our diesel is the same as Perth with your 4c shoppa docket.I just buy local and dont worry about the $$$.Probably a bit of smart marketing on behalf of the 3 roadhouses in town, get the roadtrains that travel thru town too and from Perth.I see many fueling up so I guess we have the truckies to thank for reasonable prices.I dont buy lunches etc like some of the workmates do.$50 about stuffed by time they buy smoko lunch a couple of drinks and a pack of fags, dont know how they can do it This is where the oil sellers make the low pump price up!!!!
Last time was $150 for a fill that was the most Ive ever paid.Looking at $180+ this time

That isn't much. The last mine I worked in I used to do overtime re-fueling and it was nothing to load each truck with 3000-3500ltrs of diesel every 4 hours.Thats 20 trucks, not including 8 diggers that took 12-15,000ltrs every 12hrs and not including another 30 dozers, graders, water trucks, loaders, smaller trucks and a fleet of about 50 toyota's.Thats one mine in a cast of around 100. The WA Gov is spending MILLIONS to bring the mothballed Muja powerstation back on line.It was shut down as it was too expensive to run and VERY environmentaly UNFRIENDLY,it was at the end of its lifespan. It wont be ready to come on line for 6 to 8 weeks at the earliest.
This gas problem is much bigger than they let on.
I REALLY WONDER,ALL THIS UNLIMITED NOR WEST GAS THAT GETS SOLD TO THE JAPS AT REAL LOW RATES (IVE HEARD THE EQUIVELENT OF 20 CENTS A LITRE,CORRECT ME IF IM WRONG)WHY THE OTHER PRODUCERS CANT UP SUPPLY INTO THE NW GAS PIPILINE.MY GUESS IS IS 100% OF THEIR PRODUCTION IS SOWN UP IN CHEAP OVERSEAS SALES
    NOT A HAPPY CAMPER

Im hearing the same story from family and friends above the 26".Its ok for the people to suffer but dont dare disrupt the flow of cash to the shareholders/fatcats.

Pat Im only talking their power station that runs the refinery, never mind the production to get the bauxite to the refinery.
And this is only a little bauxite mine/refinery,lots other much bigger mining fish doing the same thing.

    1. Reports in the US blame the gas explosion in WA for the spike in oil prices a week ago.

    2. Diverting export gas to domestic consumption may not be as simple as it looks - apart from contractual commitments, it is unlikely that fields that were developed on the basis of exports have any pipeline connections to the domestic gas grid. If these did exist, I would be very surprised if the production rate of the fields was not flexible enough to divert at least some gas to domestic use, and I can't imagine any producer turning down an opportunity to make extra money, particularly since it would be a seller's market. If such pipeline connections exist, my guess is that they are already operating at maximum capacity.

As for diverting LNG tankers to unload for domestic use - that is simply not possible, since there is no LNG unloading facility in Australia, and it is not something you knock up overnight.

Victoria learnt(?) the lesson of having a single failure point for the state's gas production twenty years ago with a possibly similar accident at Longford. That one cost the operator (Exxon) a fortune in damages, but at that time there was not already a diesel or oil problem.
